Linked Accounts can now Access AWS Cost Explorer’s Reserved Instance (RI) Purchase Recommendations

Posted on: Jun 27, 2018

AWS Cost Explorer provides you with Reserved Instance (RI) purchase recommendations based on your total cross-account Amazon EC2 and Amazon RDS usage. Starting today, linked accounts can also access custom RI purchase recommendations for specific linked accounts directly via AWS Cost Explorer.

To generate these recommendations, AWS Cost Explorer analyzes your usage to automatically identify the usage that can be covered with RIs and generates RI purchase recommendations to optimally cover your On-Demand usage at a discounted RI rate—including automatically identifying instance family usage that can be most efficiently covered with Size-Flexible RIs. This launch provides the ability to generate recommendations based solely on the usage incurred by the specific linked account. You can further refine your recommendations by adjusting the RI parameters (e.g., return only recommendations for partial upfront convertible RIs with a one-year term) and the historical time period of usage on which your recommendations are calculated (e.g., the last 60 days). Once you have identified the optimal mix of RIs to address your business needs, you can proceed directly to the Amazon EC2 or RDS RI Purchase Console via the link in AWS Cost Explorer.

To access your RI purchase recommendations, go to AWS Cost Explorer or refer to the Getting Reserved Instance Recommendations user guide. To learn more about RI cost management, you can access the Reserved Instance Reporting webpage.
