This year marks the 10th anniversary of the AWS Partner Network (APN). To celebrate a decade of partner-driven innovation and evolution, we launched “10 Years of Success”—a series of partner transformation stories highlighting some AWS Partners who have grown with us since 2012.

To wrap up the series, we’re featuring Alert Logic, an AWS Partner that provides managed detection and response (MDR) solutions cloud applications.

Since being founded in 2002, Alert Logic’s cloud-native technology and deep expertise has helped customers across all sizes and industries manage their security and compliance risks.

As an independent software vendor (ISV) with AWS Competencies in Level 1 Managed Security Services, Containers, and Security, Alert Logic worked with Vertére—a leader in lab inventory management software—to secure their AWS Cloud infrastructure with a scalable security platform and an around-the-clock threat intelligence and analysis.

As Vertére transitioned to a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model on Amazon Web Services (AWS), it needed a cybersecurity team that could help with threat hunting, intrusion management, and keeping clients’ data safe.

“It made sense to go with Alert Logic to protect our AWS environments—they’re a leader in the field and they’re always thinking about how to make us more secure,” said Jarrod Ruez, President at Vertére.

Q&A with Alert Logic

We spoke with Koby Thibault, Director of Cloud Alliances at Alert Logic, to learn about their evolution as the industry’s first SaaS-enabled managed detection and response (MDR) provider, their security platform (built on AWS), and the impact the APN has had on their business.

AWS: What made you decide to become an AWS Partner back in 2012?

Koby Thibault: Back in 2012, Alert Logic offered full-stack, continuous security coverage wrapped in services with an 24/7 security operations center (SOC) and threat intelligence for multiple IT environments (on premises and hosted). Given that cloud infrastructure was just emerging in the market, it made sense to also create solutions and offerings to help customers secure their cloud environments.

When AWS launched the cloud, Alert Logic saw that AWS could potentially become an industry leader with its capabilities and ability to innovate. We knew that customers adopting AWS would need security solutions for their cloud environments.

As a leading cloud services provider, AWS was open to collaborating with us to create cloud-native, purpose-built security solutions for customers that scale with their cloud workloads.

AWS: Ten years is a long time in the tech world. What changes have you seen in your customers and/or in your industry during that time?

Koby: Security is always evolving, with new categories appearing every few years. Some of these security categories get merged with more mature technologies through acquisition, and others reposition themselves as next-gen versions of more mature categories. This has caused lots of confusion for leaders responsible for the security posture of their organization.

Another issue is the shortage of cloud security expertise that can extract value and actionable insights from customers’ existing security stacks.

Alert Logic has kept up with these changes by leaning into our key differentiator—continuous and comprehensive coverage with managed detection and response for multi-cloud and hybrid environments. Our security platform (built on AWS) features advanced threat intelligence and security analysts available around the clock to monitor, detect, and recommend remediation for incidents.

AWS: What transformation and growth has your business gone through with AWS in the last 10 years?

Koby: In 2011, Alert Logic introduced the industry’s first SaaS-enabled managed detection and response for AWS and the cloud environment. Since then, we’ve evolved as the first MDR ISV to join the APN in 2012; building our second SOC in the UK and opening our UK offices in 2014; building our first network for IDS for containers in 2018; helping launch AWS Control Tower, AWS Outposts, and AWS Network Firewall in 2020; and most recently, achieving our Level 1 Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP) Competency and creating our Launchpad for AWS MSSPs program.

AWS: What APN resources or programs have you leveraged most effectively to build and differentiate your business?

Koby: Together with AWS, we’ve acted as launch partners for several important AWS services, including AWS Control Tower and AWS Outposts.

The AWS Competency programs help affirm our leadership in areas like MSSP software, security software, Amazon Linux Ready, and more. In addition, leveraging programs like APN Customer Engagements (ACE) and ISV Accelerate, we are able discover new sales opportunities and drive more revenue.

In 2021, Alert Logic launched the Launchpad for AWS MSSPs program, which helps partners achieve the AWS Level 1 MSSP Competency in a matter of weeks and without having to invest in additional security tools and staff.

Our launch partner for this was Mission Cloud Services, an AWS Premier Tier Services Partner that accelerates enterprise cloud transformation by delivering a differentiated suite of agile managed cloud services and consulting. As part of this collaboration, Alert Logic enables Mission to bring continuous security services to customers and meet security challenges by integrating our MDR offerings into Mission’s services portfolio.

AWS: In your opinion, what’s the best part about working with AWS or favorite aspect of being an AWS Partner?

Koby: The commitment and collaboration with AWS teams—AWS Marketplace, sales, the APN—is unmatched in the industry. AWS carries their customer obsession pillar onto their partners and works with us to grow and accelerate within their network. We are encouraged to think big in very much the same way AWS teams do. You feel like you are part of the team and of the overall AWS vision.

AWS: What do the next few years look like for your organization with AWS? What are you hoping to achieve for continued growth?

Koby: Alert Logic is looking to continue our upward trajectory with AWS in a few different ways. We will continue to integrate with as many AWS services as we can to ensure our customers are receiving the best possible experience.

In addition, we will continue to collaborate with AWS Sales to make certain we are delivering value to their customers. Our commitment to AWS Marketplace in unparalleled, and we will continue on that journey and strive to endlessly innovate with AWS.
