In 2017, many APN Partners invested in efforts to enhance their solutions and help customers migrate enterprise desktop applications to AWS. These partners are demonstrating the value of supporting AWS services that provide customers with solutions that are secure, easy-to-use, scalable, and cost-effective. We have high expectations Partners will continue to build and optimize products to run on AWS, and provide high-quality technical content, labs, and workshops to guide customer adoption.

At AWS re:Invent 2017, we introduced the AWS Serverless Application Repository that enables AWS customers to easily discover, deploy, and publish serverless apps for data processing, stream processing, Internet of Things (IoT) device data telemetry, and more. The Splunk AWS Serverless Applications are available from the AWS Lambda console and allow customers to ingest TBs of data into Splunk. Check out the Splunk serverless apps that are open-sourced to dive deeper, including the underlying AWS SAM template.

We see many AWS Partners doing great things and innovating on the AWS Cloud. Veeam is bringing backup technology to the cloud; IOpipe helps you get better insight into your AWS Lambda functions; and Narrative Science uses machine learning to generate auto reports from your big data. These are just a few of the innovations being driven by members of the AWS Partner Network (APN), the global partner program for AWS that is focused on helping you build a successful AWS-based business.

VMware Cloud on AWS enables customers to extend their on-premises data centers and easily migrate application workloads without having to convert machine image formats or undergo a re-platforming process. Customers no longer have to over-provision hardware resources to accommodate for host failures. Instead, they can increase utilization of the cluster resources, as host failure replacement takes minutes, not days or weeks. In this post, we dive deeper into the foundational blocks that make up this service.

Identity is a fundamental design decision that software as a service (SaaS) architects must consider when developing a multi-tenant system. Developers who are building SaaS applications must be able to identify a user, the tenant associated with the user, the user’s permissions, and the relationship a tenant has with the provider, such as usage plan or tier. In this post for SaaS Technology Partners, I will explore how to architect a multi-tenant system and identify tenant context and role using Amazon Cognito.

APN Partners new to managed services often have questions about how to protect their customers from social engineering attacks and how to best test themselves to meet APN Program requirements. In the same way a traditional MSP is responsible for the physical security of your datacenter, a next-gen MSP is a customer’s trusted resource for helping maintain their portion of the Shared Responsibility Model. Instead of physical keys, the MSP is their customer’s gatekeepers into the cloud.

This is the second post in our series documenting a project to fix issues with the GameDay architecture by using tenets of the AWS Well-Architected Framework. We cover the steps it took to fix the critical findings identified by the review team. As noted in Part 1 of the series, the review team delivered a list of critical findings we needed to prioritize, as well as a list of non-critical ideas that we should consider in our roadmap.

GorillaStack enables customers to apply simple rules to managing cloud resources across all AWS accounts and regions. GuardiCore offers the Centra Security Platform to help bridge the gaps of customers’ security configuration in the AWS cloud.

Precision medicine relies on the aggregate of many tests to advance healthcare and genome sequencing is one such test that is gaining adoption throughout healthcare. Understanding a patient’s genetic predisposition to different diseases is fundamental to establishing a medical risk baseline. Two of our AWS Partner Network (APN) Partners, DNAnexus and Edico Genome, are working together to advance the principles of precision medicine, and are already changing lives through genomics.

SaaS solutions often present architects with a diverse mix of scaling and optimization requirements. With SaaS, your application’s architecture must accommodate a continually shifting landscape of customers and load profiles. The number of customers in the system and their usage patterns can change dramatically on a daily—or even hourly—basis. These dynamics make it challenging for SaaS architects to identify a model that can efficiently anticipate and respond to these variations.
