AWS joins Blender Development fund

Digital content creation in Media & Entertainment (and beyond) has become more important than ever. Creative studios and departments need to have access to the latest tools to handle ever-increasing demands for content production. Open source solutions such as OpenColorIO and Universal Scene Description (USD) have helped solve some of the industry’s most complicated problems, and AWS has a deep history with (and affinity for) open source technology.

I am excited to announce today that AWS has joined the Blender Development Fund as a Patron Member to support continued development and innovation for Blender. Blender is a free and open source application that supports the entirety of the 3D pipeline: modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing, and motion tracking. Through our membership with the Blender Foundation, AWS will help develop next-generation animation tools within Blender, providing production expertise and optimizations to animation workflows through the scalability and security of AWS.

The Blender Foundation has been an industry leader in providing production-grade open source software solutions. We look forward to helping our mutual customers work more efficiently than ever before through continued improvements in Blender, Cycles, and Eevee.

The Creative Tools team at AWS includes AWS Thinkbox, a long-time provider of production-proven technology used in digital content creation. As the developer of Deadline render management software, we look forward to continuing this legacy through collaboration on code and standards with the Blender community, along with our customers and APN Partners. Keep an eye out for more to come!
