AWS selected for U.S. Department of Defense Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability contract
In 2021, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) announced the creation of the Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability (JWCC) contract—a multi-vendor acquisition vehicle designed to make cloud services and capabilities available at all classification levels and across all security domains, from the enterprise to the tactical edge. JWCC will enable the DoD to fully leverage the capabilities of the cloud to meet current and future mission initiatives. Further, JWCC is key to enabling critical warfighter capabilities, such as the Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2), and the DoD Artificial Intelligence and Data Acceleration Initiative (ADA).
At AWS, we understand that national security depends on our nation’s ability to stay a step ahead of adversaries. With more than 10 years of experience providing the U.S. government with cloud-based IT solutions, AWS has a proven track record of helping the DoD deploy cloud services to respond to the needs of the mission. From supporting the development of the U.S. Army’s first enduring tactical cloud environment, to helping the U.S. Navy take on COVID-19, and being selected to help develop new capabilities for the U.S. Air Force’s Advanced Battle Management System, AWS is providing customers in every branch of the military and throughout the DoD with the most innovative, efficient, scalable, and secure solutions. As the DoD continues to modernize the way it supports the warfighter and defends our national security, AWS is committed to supporting its critical mission.
What AWS brings to the warfighter
Under JWCC, we stand at the ready to address the DoD’s requirement for secure, scalable, and compliant cloud services, available from the enterprise to the tactical edge. AWS offers many capabilities to support mission success, including:
Data support across all classification levels: AWS was the first cloud service provider accredited to support government workloads across the full range of U.S. government data classifications, including Unclassified, Secret, and Top Secret. AWS brings nearly a decade of experience supporting the U.S. Government’s most sensitive workloads.
Available and resilient services: To support the DoD’s unique requirements and mission objectives, AWS offers a comprehensive services portfolio and is continually innovating on behalf of our defense customers to help advance their mission.
Fortified security: AWS is architected to be the most flexible and secure cloud computing environment available today. This is backed by a deep set of cloud security tools, with over 300 security, compliance, and governance services and features. AWS also supports 98 security standards and compliance certifications, helping satisfy compliance requirements for virtually every regulatory agency around the globe.
Data availability at the tactical edge: As the digital battlefield continues to evolve, we understand the need for capabilities at the tactical edge, including Disconnected, Disrupted, Intermittent, or Limited environments around the world. To support warfighter at the edge, AWS brings solutions with private connectivity and rugged, portable, tamper-evident compute devices, which includes the AWS Snow Family. These devices are field-tested for the most extreme conditions and are purpose-built to move petabytes of data, offline.
Mainframe migration and modernization: Recognizing the strategic importance of mainframe workloads for our customers, including DoD mission owners, we’ve built a team of highly qualified mainframe resources and experts. Our proven methodology, automated tools, and certified partners are available to replatform, refactor, or augment DoD mainframe workloads to drive innovation, agility, and cost savings. With AWS, mission owners can confidently move their critical mainframe infrastructure and applications to a secure and scalable cloud environment with global reach.
Cloud trainings and education: To help meet the growing demand for individuals with cloud skills, AWS has pledged to train 29 million people around the world with free cloud training by 2025. Understanding the DoD’s desire to recruit and hire individuals with emerging technologies skillsets, as well as reskill its workforce, the AWS Training and Certification team is ready to support their efforts.
Through JWCC, AWS is honored to provide industry-leading cloud services that enable the DoD to build and deploy critical mission systems, enhance security, increase agility, and lower cost. We feel strongly that the defense community deserves access to the best technology in the world. And with AWS, they do.
