Build your first AI assistant with PartyRock
PartyRock, an Amazon Bedrock playground from Amazon Web Services (AWS), makes creating artificial intelligence (AI) applications simple and engaging—even if you have never written a line of code. With just a few steps, you can build your own AI assistant to help with homework, share with friends, or spark new creative ideas.
This post is designed for students and educators. For students, PartyRock offers a hands-on way to learn about AI while building tools that support studying and creativity. For educators, it can be used as a classroom activity to introduce generative AI concepts in a safe, supervised environment.
In the walkthrough below, we’ll show you how to create an AI assistant that explains concepts, answers questions, and provides study tips, while also covering online safety and the long-term benefits of learning about AI today.
What you need
You need these things to create your AI assistant:
• A computer with internet access
• Permission from a parent or guardian
• About 15 minutes of time
• Curiosity and creativity
What is PartyRock?
PartyRock is a browser-based playground built on Amazon Bedrock. Instead of writing code, you create applications by connecting “blocks” that handle tasks such as answering questions or generating text. Each application you build is stored in the cloud, and you can share it with classmates or friends using a link (with parent or guardian approval). Think of it as LEGO for AI applications: You snap the blocks together, and suddenly you’ve created something new.
Build your AI assistant
In this section, we will walk you through the steps to build an AI assistant using PartyRock.
Step 1: Get started
Use these steps to start creating your AI assistant:
- Go to PartyRock (with parent or guardian permission).
- Choose Generate app.
- A box asking what kind of application you want to create will be displayed, as shown in the following screenshot.
Step 2: Describe your AI assistant
Copy this description into the What do you want to build? box:
Create a friendly AI assistant that can:
- Explain homework topics using clear, simple language
- Solve math and science problems step by step
- Share interesting facts about school subjects
- Suggest study tips
Use the voice of a helpful friend who uses clear examples that students can understand.
Step 3: Meet your AI assistant
PartyRock generates your AI assistant, which we’ll call “LearnMate.”
LearnMate features:
- A friendly welcome message
- A box to enter your subject (such as algebra, chemistry, or history)
- A space for specific questions
- A chat window where you can interact with your new study buddy

Step 4: Ask your AI assistant questions
You can ask your AI assistant questions, such as:
- “How does a plant make food?”
- “What’s a good way to remember multiplication tables?”
- “Tell me a fun fact about the solar system.”
Adjust the description until your AI assistant explains topics in your preferred manner. The following screenshot shows a Q&A with the AI assistant.
Step 5: Share your creation
If your parent or guardian approves, you can publish and share your AI assistant:
- Choose Publish
- Copy the link to your AI assistant
- Share it with classmates, friends, or your study group
The following screenshot shows the options for sharing your AI assistant.
Using AI is exciting, but it’s important to practice online safety:
- Keep personal information private – Don’t share your real name, school, or location.
- Ask first – Get permission before using PartyRock or sharing your AI assistant.
- Be kind – Use respectful language and help others learn.
- Double-check facts – AI can make mistakes. Verify information with teachers, parents, or trusted sources.
More projects to try
After building your AI assistant, you can experiment with other creative applications in PartyRock. For example, you might design a quiz generator that produces practice questions for study sessions, a story creator that helps spark ideas for creative writing, or even a fun-fact generator that shares interesting trivia about the topics you enjoy most. Each of these projects builds on the same blocks you used for your AI assistant, showing how flexible PartyRock can be as a learning and teaching tool.
Why this matters?
Learning about generative AI now can help to prepare you for the future. Starting with a straightforward project such as a AI assistant can give you a hands-on way to understand AI while encouraging creativity and problem-solving abilities.
