Carrier Improves Flexibility, Scalability, and Cost Efficiency by Migrating Its Oracle ERP Application to AWS
Industry Challenge
Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is used to manage and integrate different parts of a business, such as procurement, human resources, and manufacturing. Carrier Corporation (Carrier), a global provider of building and cold chain solutions, wanted to reduce the number and complexity of its Oracle ERP applications to better meet future needs of scalability and cost efficiency.
Carrier’s Solution
Carrier met these needs by migrating to a cloud infrastructure on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The company evaluated different cloud providers, comparing them against strict algorithms for cost, data recovery, and scalability. Carrier examined both the costs on day one and the scalability and costs on day 365 and decided to migrate its JD Edwards ERP application to AWS. “Using AWS gave us more flexibility [and] more options that we could plug and play and choose from,” says Rick Carey, associate director at Carrier. “Using AWS was the best option all around in terms of flexibility and scalability.”
Benefits of Using AWS
By migrating Oracle ERP to AWS, Carrier has created a scalable and cost-effective solution with an aggressive projected return of investment period of less than 3 years. “Using AWS we have the flexibility, scalability, and strategic alliance with our ERP road maps . . . to accelerate machine learning and provide better, more scalable solutions to the business,” says Carey.
Another benefit Carrier achieved was the ability to provide good solutions to its business users, who have many new tools with new functionality in the Oracle ERP application. Users can now more efficiently scale up their activities, which promotes acceleration to the cloud for the company’s next generation of solutions.

Using AWS we have the flexibility, scalability, and strategic alliance with our ERP road maps . . . to accelerate machine learning and provide better, more scalable solutions to the business.”
