This blog post explores the options US public sector customers and their business partners should evaluate when selecting an AWS partition. We discuss the differences between AWS GovCloud (US) and the AWS standard partition and how to decide which partition may be the best match for your organization’s security, compliance, and availability needs.

Increasingly, AWS customers are operating workloads both in AWS GovCloud (US) and standard AWS Regions. Dependencies between workloads, changing data controls, or enrichment of data across multiple data levels are examples of business needs that may require moving data in and out of AWS GovCloud (US). In this blog post, I explain how to move data between Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) buckets in the AWS GovCloud (US) and standard partitions.

As public sector customers find increasing need to move data between the AWS GovCloud (US) partition and the standard partition, they need tools to help them lower their operational burden. In this blog post, I walk through how to use AWS DataSync to move data on network file system (NFS) shares between the two partitions.

On Tuesday, May 24, Max Peterson, vice president of worldwide public sector at AWS, took the keynote stage at AWS Summit Washington, DC to share announcements, news, and stories of how our public sector customers are leveraging the cloud to deliver mission-critical outcomes. Three customer speakers joined him to share how they’re using AWS to get the agility, resilience, and security needed to keep pushing boundaries and driving impact.

Earlier this week, I was thrilled to host my first AWS Public Sector Partner Forum in advance of the AWS Summit Washington, DC. It was a wonderful opportunity to speak directly to AWS Partners about our journey together, share some exciting announcements, and have a conversation with other AWS leaders. Here are some highlights.

AWS helps customers build satellites, conduct space and launch operations, and leverage cloud-powered infrastructure on the ground. To further promote scalability and flexibility across the space industry, AWS has joined the Digital IF Interoperability (DIFI) Consortium. The DIFI Consortium is an independent group of space companies, organizations, and government agencies from around the world that promote an open and simple standard to facilitate interoperability of ground systems supporting space operations.

For countries like the UK, being at the forefront of innovation is vital to maintaining an agile, swift, and effective defence strategy. To support this need, AWS is launching its first Defence Accelerator for UK based startups, and startups from Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) doing business in the UK.

This year, to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the Biden administration committed to making free COVID-19 test kits available to U.S. households through covidtests.gov. AWS is honored to support this initiative by working with the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to make sure the website for test kit ordering meets nationwide demand.

AWS is pleased to officially announce the innovative startups chosen to participate in the AWS Sustainable Cities Accelerator. These selected startups are developing groundbreaking solutions to help cities address sustainability challenges, like tackling traffic analysis, smart internet of things (IoT) lampposts, and much more. AWS launched the Sustainable Cities Accelerator program in March to help address the crucial need for innovation and collaborative solutions to address global climate and clean tech challenges. The 12 finalists in the cohort originate from four countries across North America, Latin America, and Europe, and represent a wide-range of innovative sustainable solutions.

In 2020, the U.S. Army’s XVIII Airborne Corps embarked on a mission to become the Army’s data-centric Corps. Headquartered at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the XVIII Airborne Corps—also known as the “America’s Contingency Corps” — is the Army’s strategic response force and is at the ready to deploy anywhere in the world to defend the US and its Allies. To enable their data ambitions, the XVIII Airborne Corps sought to establish the first enduring tactical cloud presence for the conventional Army and leveraged the AWS Cloud to support their journey.
