Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced that six institutes of higher learning in Singapore—including all five national polytechnics and a private education institution—will bring AWS Cloud courses and learning resources into their diploma programs. By collaborating with AWS education programs, these institutions are developing the next generation of cloud professionals. The courses, which include the fundamentals of cloud computing, application development, and cloud security, are available now as part of the institutions’ diploma and short course programs.

Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP), Republic Polytechnic (RP), Singapore Polytechnic (SP), Temasek Polytechnic (TP), and the London School of Business and Finance (LSBF) are integrating content with support from AWS Academy and AWS Educate to help students develop in-demand cloud skills and prepare for entry-level employment. These programs offer ready-to-teach cloud curriculum as well as self-paced learning resources, educator professional development, and no-cost project environments for virtual, blended, or in-person learning.

Students will gain practical hands-on experience in developing artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) applications and security-related solutions that will build their competence with various AWS services. They will also participate in Build On 2021, an annual hackathon hosted by AWS that invites students from vocational institutions, polytechnics, and universities to solve business challenges by developing solutions using cloud services. This event also provides opportunities for students to network with AWS Partners and customers as they seek employment opportunities.

“Developing a skilled tech workforce experienced in cloud computing is key to growing Singapore’s economy,” said Tan Lee Chew, ASEAN managing director, public sector, AWS. “We are pleased to work with these six institutions to launch an AWS-based cloud curriculum that will help educate students for in-demand technology careers. With the resources and tools provided by AWS, the educators and students can gain access to the latest and most innovative cloud technologies to help build a skilled future workforce.”
