Region 4 Education Service Center

 Region 4 Education Service Center

 Houston, Texas, USA

 Champion since 2024

Established in 1967, the Region 4 Education Service Center (Region 4) serves an eight-county area comprised of 48 public school districts and 41 open-enrollment charter schools, representing more than 1.2 million students, 165,000 educators, and 1,500 campuses.  Region 4 is more than a resource hub; it is a collective of District Advancement Champions composed of experienced educators and education leaders. Region 4 offers a range of services that help K12 education organizations improve student performance, enable faculty success, and implement state initiatives.

Their journey to digital transformation started with the desire to provide insights to school districts to positively impact student outcomes. In 2023, in collaboration with the Texas Education Agency, other Texas Education Service Centers, and Texas K12 school districts, Region 4 was awarded ~$50M to build the Texas Education Exchange, a data solution for K12 districts across the state of Texas.  In addition to this project, Region 4 began digital transformation within other parts of their organization including professional development, applications, core IT, and procurement and escWorks.  EscWorks is a digital platform that allows K12 organizations to manage professional development workshops and conferences, as well as provide analytical data to identify product offering trends and meet industry standards and compliance needs.  Last year Region 4 migrated escWorks to AWS cloud and began modernizing the platform including adopting Amazon Quicksight to improve data analytics capabilities for their users.  Region 4 leadership and staff continue to innovate and find opportunities impact and transform a K12 organization’s digital platform into a data-driven solution where educators can derive a strong relationship with their data and make informed decisions that can influence their student’s learning experience.

What is the AWS Champions Program?

The AWS Champions program recognizes, celebrates, and supports organizations and individuals driving digital transformation with cloud computing. AWS recognizes AWS Education Champions, AWS State and Local Government Champions, AWS EdTech Champions, and AWS GovTech Champions.

The purpose of the program is to acknowledge customers that have used AWS products and services in innovative ways to improve the service to their communities, constituents, customers, stakeholders, staff, students, faculty or researchers. Champions’ experiences and success stories serve as inspiration for other education, state and local government, EdTech and GovTech customers to reference as they think about their own digital transformation journey.
