Delivering results to doctors and patients in the shortest time with Genomic Core

Alayr Maués Melo Sobrinho, Chefe da Divisão de Data Center, TRT-8; Rubens Karklin, Arquiteto de Soluções Senior, AWS

The growing volume of genetic tests has generated new challenges for precision medicine laboratories. Our mission is to ensure that accurate results are delivered to the doctor and patient in the shortest possible time. To this end, a solution was developed in the AWS cloud to automatically execute bioinformatics pipelines - identification of genetic variants and annotation of biological data - in a scalable and cost-effective way, at the same time, we guarantee the reproducibility of results and computational efficiency. Genomics Core uses managed AWS services such as Fargate, Batch and ECR, with SPOT instances to reduce processing costs, and open-source tools such as WDL and Cromwell. Our solution is embedded in our Varstation® and Varsmetagen® platforms, it is also used in research projects such as Rare Genomes and bioinformatics consultancy.
