Overview

InfusionPoints, an AWS GSCA Partner, and AWS GSCA Partner Schellman Compliance worked with Canada-based OpenText Corporation to achieve a FedRAMP Moderate authorization for the OpenText IT Management Platform. After connecting with InfusionPoints through the AWS Global Security & Compliance Acceleration program, OpenText achieved a FedRAMP Moderate certification in 18 months, enabling the company to serve its US government customers seeking cloud modernization and to expand its business to other federal, state, and local government agencies and contractors.

Opportunity | Navigating Complex FedRAMP Approval Process Under Tight Timelines

OpenText Corporation provides an extensive suite of IT solutions to businesses and government agencies globally. With increased US government mandates for agencies to modernize IT systems, many of OpenText’s existing federal customers needed to transition from on-premises solutions to secure, cloud-based platforms. To retain these customers and expand further into the federal government market, OpenText sought FedRAMP Moderate authorization for the OpenText IT Management Platform (ITMX)—a cloud-based suite that includes solutions for service management, portfolio management, and content management.

However, achieving FedRAMP authorization is a complex, resource-intensive process that can take two years or more—longer than OpenText’s customers could wait. In addition to time pressures, OpenText faced challenges due to its lack of both FedRAMP expertise and US-based development and operations staff, a requirement for authorization. The company had to navigate the extensive controls and document requirements and take meticulous steps to secure sensitive data beyond what it had already done to run on AWS. For OpenText, balancing these compliance tasks with its existing development workflows was critical, especially when handling cross-border teams that could not access the AWS GovCloud (US) environment due to location-based restrictions. “We realized we were in over our heads,” says Chad Hulse, director of SaaS strategy at OpenText. “We needed a partner who could help us meet the urgent timelines and successfully navigate complex requirements of FedRAMP.”

Solution | Achieving FedRAMP Compliance Efficiently with InfusionPoints and AWS

To overcome these challenges, OpenText turned to Amazon Web Services (AWS) for guidance in selecting an experienced compliance partner that could guide the company through accreditation rather than providing a system for the company to work through on its own and could help meet the requirement for US-based development and operations. Through the AWS Global Security & Compliance Acceleration (GSCA) program, OpenText connected with InfusionPoints, an AWS Partner known for its deep technical knowledge and experience with FedRAMP workloads. The GSCA program also helped OpenText connect with Schellman Compliance, an AWS GSCA Partner and FedRAMP-approved Third Party Assessment Organization (3PAO), to conduct its comprehensive security assessment, a critical step required for FedRAMP authorization.

InfusionPoints provided OpenText with a strategic solution that combined compliance automation and managed services from a US-based team to expedite the FedRAMP authorization process. Leveraging its XccelerATOr compliance automation platform on AWS, InfusionPoints facilitated rapid configuration and compliance for OpenText’s ITMX platform. Within 30 days, InfusionPoints deployed a secure, multi-tenant environment tailored to meet FedRAMP Moderate standards.

The innovative solution runs on AWS GovCloud (US) and relies on a robust set of AWS services including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) for scalable compute resources, Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) for secure data storage, and AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) for role-based access. To automate setup and ensure consistency across deployments, InfusionPoints uses AWS CloudFormation and Terraform for infrastructure as code, which streamlines resource management and compliance across multiple regions. AWS Lambda, a serverless compute service, runs code in response to events and automatically manages compute resources, while AWS Security Hub automates AWS security checks and centralizes security alerts. Additionally, Amazon FSx provides shared file storage, and AWS CloudTrail enables secure logging and auditing, essential for maintaining a documented compliance trail.

This coordinated use of AWS services makes it possible for InfusionPoints to manage the complexities of FedRAMP requirements effectively, so OpenText can focus on enhancing its core product offerings. “InfusionPoints’ deep understanding of FedRAMP and AWS enabled us to meet compliance efficiently and on schedule,” says Tanner Bailey, senior consultant at InfusionPoints. “With their guidance and use of the robust AWS infrastructure and services, we established a secure, compliant environment that supports ongoing requirements.”

Outcome | Gaining Access to Major US Markets to Drive Business Growth

By leveraging InfusionPoints’ services and AWS infrastructure and services, OpenText achieved FedRAMP Moderate authorization for its ITMX platform in 18 months, reducing the typical timeline by 25 percent. This authorization enabled OpenText to meet the time requirements of its existing US federal customers while opening the door for growth with other federal and state agencies that require StateRAMP and TX-RAMP accreditations, which are state-level cloud security certification programs.

Since being listed on the FedRAMP Marketplace, a public directory of cloud solutions approved for use by federal agencies, OpenText has attracted new leads and generated increased interest from multiple agencies seeking compliant cloud services. “We’ve seen an increase in demand for secure, cloud-based solutions in just the first two months of being listed,” says Hulse. The partnership not only provided OpenText with market access but also improved its security posture, with InfusionPoints’ 24/7 monitoring and secure AWS infrastructure bolstering continued compliance.

This success has also paved the way for OpenText to explore higher levels of certification, such as FedRAMP High and DoD Impact Level 4 (IL4) with plans to expand its portfolio further in the government sector. “We couldn’t have achieved FedRAMP authorization so quickly without InfusionPoints and AWS,” concludes Hulse. “They managed the complexities so we could concentrate on our core business and help our customers modernize securely.”

Atlassian Reduces Latency by 17% and…

Atlassian faced a critical challenge when the storage solution hosting its Bitbucket platform’s 2.3 petabytes of data was being retired. To solve this, Atlassian joined forces with AWS Partner NetApp to migrate that data to an Amazon Web Services (AWS) storage service that used NetApp’s ONTAP file system. The migration was seamless, resulting in no discernable customer impact and no service disruptions. Within a one-month period, Atlassian successfully migrated 60 million repositories, achieving $2.1 million in annual cost savings and reducing application latency by 17 percent.

    NeuralSpace Accelerates AI Model Training…

NeuralSpace, a London-based AI startup, had the same problem that many startups have: not enough time, not enough money, and too much to do. It needed to develop and train the AI models that powered its language AI applications—automatic translation of text and speech, automated subtitling, and automated AI dubbing of content—but these processes were taking too long. With 20–30 TB of data being used to train each model, it could take 3–6 months to train just one. And the company needed to train multiple models to develop its products. NeuralSpace knew that it needed to find a way to speed up model training that would fit within its limited budget. With the help of AWS Partner Rebura, NeuralSpace migrated to Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enable faster modeling and a crucial pivot in focus.
