Accelerating global growth for gaming on AWS with Wicked Games

By acquiring the rights to Tequity’s platform, Wicked Games gained a proven remote game server built by an experienced industry veteran. The acquisition provided a strong technical foundation to accelerate time to market, but the inherited infrastructure came with higher-than-desired baseline costs and some operational constraints. Running on a previous cloud provider, Wicked Games wanted tighter integration with managed services and broader infrastructure capabilities for long-term scaling.

The game provider also wanted to optimize content delivery for regulated markets across Europe and Asia with a cloud provider that offered deeper regional integration. And in an influencer-driven industry, seamless integration with streaming services was essential. So the company’s technical team decided to migrate to AWS. “We had a choice: AWS or the other cloud service provider,” says Igor Samardziski, cofounder and CEO of Wicked Games. “My team was absolutely unanimous—we needed to migrate to AWS. We have more expertise in AWS than we do with any other cloud provider, coupled with the fact that AWS provides everything we need, which makes it the safe choice.”

The path forward was clear but required the right partner to help accelerate the journey. Collaborating with Wicked Games on complex projects, Synergi deeply understood the game provider’s technical requirements and business goals. This long-standing relationship, along with the AWS Partner’s expertise in AWS migration, made Synergi the natural choice.

The migration required the teams to adapt how the software architecture interacted with the new underlying infrastructure. Each service, communication pathway, and integration point was reconfigured for the AWS environment. The partner brought in technical resources from across its organization to accelerate the project. “Because infrastructure touches every aspect of the system and how it communicates, the work was highly specialized and all encompassing,” says Samardziski.

To rebuild the compute layer, the teams used Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS), a service for building, running, and scaling production-ready Kubernetes applications. For the database infrastructure, the teams implemented Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), an easy-to-manage relational database service optimized for total cost of ownership. Working with Wicked Games, Synergi migrated to AWS managed services to support rapid growth, improve security posture, and meet performance requirements.

To optimize performance and benefit from Redis caching, the teams used Amazon ElastiCache, a serverless, fully managed caching service. By adopting Amazon CloudFront, Wicked Games could securely deliver content with low latency and high transfer speeds across global markets. AWS also provided credits and support throughout the migration so that the game provider could build out infrastructure for markets it hadn’t yet entered. Within weeks, the system was operational on AWS.

Operating on AWS, Wicked Games improved cost-efficiency per transaction by approximately 30 percent and increased game-round processing throughput by three times, measured at bets per second. Platform availability reached more than 99.5 percent over a 90-day service-level objective, and global gameplay latency dropped below 100 ms, helping deliver a smoother player experience. The system now supports five times more concurrent player connections at peak compared to the pre-migration baseline.

Wicked Games has a multi-account landing zone and a score of over 95 percent on AWS Security Hub, a service that prioritizes critical security issues. This security posture helps the company meet compliance requirements for entering new regulated markets. Additionally, the strong security posture gives casino operators the confidence to integrate Wicked Games’s content into their offerings.

Within 4 months of going live, Wicked Games onboarded 97 casino brands. The company now has a target to onboard 500 brands within 12 months, ramping from 1–2 brands per day.
