Release: Amazon Route 53 on 2011-05-24
This release of Amazon Route 53 introduces alias resource record sets, which allow you to create zone apex aliases; weighted resource record sets; a new API (2011-05-05), and a service-level agreement. In addition, after nearly six months in beta, Amazon Route 53 is now generally available.
|Alias resource record sets
||An alias resource record set contains a pointer to a resource record set that contains a DNS resource record set. When a DNS query matches the name and type in an alias resource record set, Route 53 follows the AliasTarget pointer to its target and responds as if the query had asked for the referenced resource record set. Alias resource record sets are especially useful for creating zone apex aliases. For more information, see Creating Alias Resource Record Sets in the Amazon Route 53 Developer Guide.
|Weighted resource record sets
||Weighted resource record sets let you associate multiple answers with a single DNS name. You can use them for a variety of purposes including load balancing and testing new versions of software. For more information, see Creating Weighted Resource Record Sets in the Amazon Route 53 Developer Guide.
