Preserve access and explore alternatives for Amazon Lookout for Equipment
October 2025: This post was reviewed and updated to reflect changes in Lookout for Equipment support and new alternatives.
Amazon Lookout for Equipment, a machine learning (ML) service designed for industrial equipment predictive maintenance, will be discontinued on October 7, 2026. New customers will not be able to access the service effective October 7, 2025, but existing customers will be able to use the service as normal until October 7, 2026. To support the transition, this post discusses alternative anomaly detection solutions available through AWS that help enable your predictive maintenance systems. AWS will continue to invest in security, availability, and performance improvements for Lookout for Equipment, but we do not plan to introduce new features for this service.
This post discusses alternatives to Lookout for Equipment.
Alternatives to Lookout for Equipment
For builders we recommend customers use AWS IoT SiteWise. AWS IoT SiteWise is a purpose-built, managed IoT service that makes it easy for customers to collect, organize, and analyze data from industrial equipment at scale. Launched in July 2025, AWS IoT SiteWise now offers native, multi-variate anomaly detection that supports Lookout for Equipment modeling. The feature automatically detects anomalies in configured assets in SiteWise, helping reliability teams to implement predictive maintenance with minimal setup. For more information, read Simplifying Industrial Equipment Monitoring with native anomaly detection in AWS IoT SiteWise.
To simplify the migration from Lookout for Equipment to SiteWise for existing customers, the AWS team created a GitHub repository that provides a set of scripts and instructions for how to migrate existing Lookout for Equipment models to the SiteWise environment.
If you are looking for an out-of-the-box solution, the AWS Partner Network (APN) offers solutions from multiple partners. AWS offers the AWS Solutions Library, which organizes internal and Partner solutions by use case. An out-of-the-box solution makes it easier to set up predictive maintenance solutions without requiring you to have expertise in predictive maintenance.
Summary
Although Lookout for Equipment is planned to shut down on October 7, 2026, AWS offers powerful, multi-variate, anomaly detection capabilities with AWS IoT SiteWise and out-of-the-box partner solutions for predictive maintenance, making it easy for you to continue monitoring equipment so you can act and avoid unplanned downtime. Explore these options to determine what works best for your specific needs.
