Alexa Announcements at ISTE 2019

This week, the Amazon Web Services (AWS) team is at the 2019 International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. ISTE supports educators as they rethink the status quo and use technology to drive good practice. At the event, ACT, Frontline Education, and Kahoot! are rolling out Alexa Skills that make it possible for customers to engage with their products through Alexa.

Earth Science Information Partners: Promoting innovation for Earth science data

The Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP) is a US-based nonprofit organization funded by NASA, NOAA, and the USGS. ESIP is playing a critical role in facilitating collaborative efforts to improve the collection, stewardship, and use of Earth science data and information. University of Nicosia in Cyprus turns to the cloud to better serve its students

The University of Nicosia (UNIC) is the largest university in Cyprus, and it is located in Nicosia, the capital. UNIC is a global university with more than 12,000 students from over 70 countries. Beyond Nicosia, UNIC has a presence in 18 additional cities across the globe. It’s the largest university in southern Europe that teaches primarily in English. To better serve its students, UNIC turned to Amazon Web Services (AWS) for reliability, cost savings, and innovation.

ACT to release a new Alexa Skill to help students prepare for the ACT test

Every year, students across the U.S. and around the globe begin preparing for college entrance exams. These tests are a key component of any student’s application to college. The ACT, a nonprofit organization that administers the ACT test, wanted to make the process of researching, studying for, and taking the ACT less stressful for students and parents. Today, they are announcing a new Alexa skill that helps guide high school students through the process of preparing for and taking the ACT.

George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College Announce the Region’s First Bachelor’s Degree for Cloud Computing with AWS Educate

George Mason University (Mason) and Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), in collaboration with AWS Educate, announced a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) pathway in cloud computing. This degree offers students a seamless transfer pathway from a two-year associate degree to a four-year bachelor degree in the cloud, providing a clear path to high-demand careers in cloud computing at AWS partners and customers.

Announcing the first international implementation of AWS Educate’s Cloud Degree program with Career Colleges Trust in the UK

The Career Colleges Trust announced it is collaborating with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to integrate AWS Educate and its Cloud Degree program into a new, two-year cloud qualification which will provide thousands of students with the opportunity to pursue technology careers in the cloud computing industry. The programme of study will launch in early 2020 and will be rolled out in further education institutions and universities across the UK.

Cal Poly Digital Transformation Hub, powered by AWS, to accelerate satellite-driven innovation in education and the public sector

Cal Poly has announced the Satellite Data Solutions (SDS) Initiative to support the growing opportunity to solve the planets most critical challenges with low earth orbit (LEO) satellite data. The DxHub will work closely with the AWS Ground Station team to test and improve satellite connectivity and improve access to satellite-acquired data to solve problems. Through the DxHub and the SDS Initiative, students and faculty will have access to AWS services, technologies, and technical expertise to experiment with ‘born-in-the-cloud’ solutions that build on, and add to, space-based data analytics.
