Four resources to help launch your cloud journey

Cloud 101

Thinking about using Amazon Web Services (AWS) for your public sector organization? There’s a lot to consider when you’re getting started—so we’re here to help. Explore these resources to get familiar with AWS, assess your migration readiness, and determine the next steps in your digital transformation.

Learn at your own pace

With AWS Training and Certification, you can learn about the cloud from AWS experts, at your own pace. From foundational courses that give you an overview of the cloud to deep dives into specific services and solution areas, these courses provide guidance and information for different roles, skill levels, and languages.

Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH), an AWS Partner Network (APN) consulting partner in the AWS Public Sector Partner Program, trained their employees on AWS to shorten the time to value for their client projects and to develop and retain their talent. Hear more from Xena Ugrinsky, formerly senior vice president of analytics, cloud, and strategy at BAH.

Try it out

Once you’ve built a foundation in key cloud concepts, try it out yourself. Hands-on experience is one of the best ways to learn about the cloud. You can learn about backups, website hosting, auto scaling, and more through our “First Workloads” webinars. Starting with one project or workload can simplify the process of migrating to the cloud.

For example, the Flemish Government took a project-based approach to the cloud. They use AWS for two of their web-based citizen services to benefit from sustainability and information security. Watch Barbara van de Haute, administrator general of the Flemish Information Agency, explain more.

Prepare for migration success

It’s important to know where your organization stands in its cloud readiness. Identifying strengths and growth areas can help you build an effective migration plan. The AWS Cloud Adoption Readiness Tool (CART) (now available in more than ten languages) assesses your readiness across the six perspectives of the AWS Cloud Adoption Framework to accelerate your cloud journey.

CART and the Cloud Adoption Framework examine technical and organizational perspectives to consider before migrating. Learn more in this session from the 2019 AWS Public Sector Summit in Ottawa.

Take steps toward implementation

You’ve assessed your cloud adoption readiness—now what? Determine the best acquisition and implementation strategies for your organization. Explore the different ways you can purchase cloud services and consider working with a member of the APN for your cloud adoption.
