Starting today, general purpose Amazon EC2 M5zn instances are available in the AWS South America (Sao Paulo) region. These new instances are a high frequency, high speed and low-latency networking variant of Amazon EC2 M5 instances, powered by custom 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors (Cascade Lake). M5zn instances deliver the highest all-core turbo CPU performance from Intel Xeon Scalable processors in the cloud, with a frequency up to 4.5 GHz.
The combination of high per-core compute performance and a balanced memory footprint make M5zn instances an ideal fit for workloads such as gaming, financial applications, simulation modeling applications such as those used in the automotive, aerospace, energy, and telecommunication industries, and other High Performance Computing applications.
Amazon EC2 M5zn instances are built on the AWS Nitro System, a collection of AWS-designed hardware and software innovations that enable the delivery of private networking, and efficient, flexible, and secure cloud services with isolated multi-tenancy.
The M5zn instances are available in 7 sizes ranging from 2 to 48 vCPUs with 8 to 192 GiB of memory, and provide up to 45% better single-threaded compute performance than EC2 M5 instances. M5zn instances also feature 100 Gbps networking with support for the Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA), and up to 19 Gbps of throughput to the Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS). M5zn are also available as bare metal instances, m5zn.metal, which are ideal for workloads that require access to the hardware feature set (such as Intel® VT-x), or for applications that need to run in non-virtualized environments for licensing or support requirements.
With this regional expansion, Amazon EC2 M5zn instances are now available in the AWS US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (N. California), US West (Oregon), EU (Ireland), EU (Frankfurt), Asia Pacific (Tokyo) and South America (Sao Paulo) regions. M5zn will be available for purchase with Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, Convertible Reserved, On-Demand, and Spot instances, or as Dedicated instances or Dedicated hosts.
