Starting today, Amazon EC2 M6g, C6g, and R6g instances are available in EU (Stockholm) region. Additionally, Amazon EC2 M6gd, C6gd and R6gd instances with local NVMe-based SSD storage are now available in US West (Northern California), and Asia Pacific (Tokyo) regions.
Amazon EC2 M6g, C6g, and R6g instances, and their disk variants with local NVMe-based SSD storage deliver up to 40% better price/performance over comparable x86-based instances for a broad spectrum of workloads, including application servers, micro-services, high-performance computing, CPU-based machine learning inference, electronic design automation, gaming, open-source databases, and in-memory caches. Amazon EC2 M6gd, C6gd and R6gd instances provide 50% more NVMe storage GB/vCPU over comparable x86-based instances. The local SSD storage provided on these instances is ideal for applications that need access to high-speed, low latency storage, as well as for temporary storage of data such as batch and log processing, and for high-speed caches and scratch files.
Amazon EC2 M6g, C6g and R6g instances and their disk variants are powered by AWS Graviton2 processors that are built utilizing 64-bit Arm Neoverse cores and custom silicon designed by AWS. AWS Graviton2 processors deliver a major leap in performance and capabilities over first-generation AWS Graviton processors, with 7x performance, 4x the number of compute cores, 2x larger caches, and 5x faster memory. AWS Graviton2 processors feature always-on 256-bit DRAM encryption and 50% faster per core encryption performance compared to the first-generation AWS Graviton processors.
Graviton2 instances are built on the AWS Nitro System, a collection of AWS-designed hardware and software innovations that enable the delivery of efficient, flexible, and secure cloud services with isolated multi-tenancy, private networking, and fast local storage. These instances provide up to 19 Gbps Elastic Block Store (EBS) bandwidth and up to 25 Gbps network bandwidth and are supported by a broad ecosystem of operating systems and services from Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) as well as AWS. These include popular Linux distributions (Amazon Linux 2, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, Ubuntu, CentOS, Debian, and Fedora), FreeBSD/NetBSD, OpenJDK and the Amazon Corretto distribution of OpenJDK, container services (Amazon ECR, Amazon ECS, Amazon EKS, Docker, and Rancher), agents (Amazon CloudWatch, AWS Systems Manager, Amazon Inspector, Crowdstrike, Datadog, Dynatrace, Honeycomb.io, Grafana, Lacework, New Relic, Qualys, Rapid7, Snyk, Splunk universal forwarder, Tenable, Trend Micro, and Wazuh), and developer/automation tools (AWS Code Suite, Buildkite, Chef, CircleCI, GitHub, GitLab, Drone.io, HashiCorp Consul, Terraform, and Vault, Jenkins, Puppet, Teleport, and TravisCI).
With this regional expansion, Amazon EC2 M6g, C6g, and R6g instances are now available across US East (N. Virginia, Ohio), US West (Northern California, Oregon), Europe (Ireland, Frankfurt, London, Stockhom), South America (Sao Paulo), AWS GovCloud (US) regions, Canada (Central), Asia Pacific (Mumbai, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong), and China (Ningxia and Beijing) regions. Additionally, M6gd, C6gd and R6gd instances with local NVMe-based SSD storage are available in the AWS US East (N. Virginia, Ohio), US West (Oregon, Northern California), Asia Pacific (Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo) and Europe (Ireland, Frankfurt) regions. All instances are available in 8 sizes, with 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 48, and 64 vCPUs in addition to the bare metal option, and are purchasable as part of Savings Plans, On-Demand, as Reserved instances, or as Spot instances. C6gn instances, delivering up to 100 Gbps network bandwidth, are available in the AWS US East (N. Virginia, Ohio), US West (Oregon), and Europe (Ireland) regions.
Since launch, many customers and partners are realizing significant price performance benefits of AWS Graviton2 based instances with minimal effort. Additionally, AWS services such as Amazon ElastiCache deliver up to 45% better price/performance and Amazon RDS (MariaDB, MySQL, and Postgres) deliver up to 52% better price/performance benefits through Graviton2-based instances. Amazon EMR provides up to 30% lower cost and up to 15% improved performance for Spark workloads on Graviton2-based instances. Graviton2-based database instances are now available in preview for Amazon Aurora with PostgreSQL and MySQL compatibility.
Customers can use the AWS Graviton2 based general purpose burstable t4g.micro instances free for up to 750 hours per month until March 31st 2021. To get started with AWS Graviton2-based Amazon EC2 M6g, C6g, R6g, M6gd, C6gd, R6gd, C6gn and T4g instances, visit the AWS Management Console, AWS Command Line Interface (CLI), and AWS SDKs.
