Starting today, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) R7iz instances are available in AWS Region US East (Ohio) and AWS Region Europe (Ireland). R7iz instances are powered by 4th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors (code named Sapphire Rapids) with an all core turbo frequency up to 3.9 GHz, and built on the AWS Nitro System, a collection of AWS-designed hardware and software innovations that enables the delivery of efficient and flexible cloud services with enhanced security, isolated multi-tenancy, private networking, and fast local storage.
R7iz instances are the fastest Sapphire Rapids-based instances in the cloud, and offer up to 20% higher performance and 2.4x higher memory bandwidth than prior generation z1d instances. R7iz instances are ideal for workloads that require a combination of high compute performance and high memory such as front-end Electronic Design Automation (EDA), relational databases with high per-core licensing fees, and financial, actuarial and data analytics simulations. R7iz also offers larger instances sizes, up to 32xlarge, and two bare metal sizes (metal-16xl and metal-32xl). All sizes support new Advance Matrix Extensions (AMX) for applications such as CPU-based machine learning and bare-metal sizes support built-in Intel accelerators: Data Streaming Accelerator, In-Memory Analytics Accelerator, and QuickAssist Technology that are used to facilitate efficient offload and acceleration of data operations and optimize performance for workloads.
Amazon EC2 R7iz instances are available in US East (N. Virginia, Ohio), US West (Oregon), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Europe (Frankfurt, Ireland). To get started, visit the AWS Management Console, AWS Command Line Interface (CLI), and AWS SDKs.
