The leading vocational and professional education provider in Hong Kong, Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) Information Technology Discipline, and Amazon Web Services (AWS), through its AWS Educate initiative, announced the launch of a new cloud computing diploma to prepare students for entry-level cloud technology jobs.

Starting in September 2020, the two-year program will be available to IVE students and will support approximately 100 cloud computing students annually. The program includes five semesters of learning content inclusive of cloud fundamentals, hands-on labs, professional development, and a final year project.

The content was developed in collaboration with AWS Educate, Amazon’s global initiative to provide students and educators with the resources needed to accelerate cloud-related learning endeavors. The program also contains five courses from AWS Academy, a program that provides higher education institutions with a no-cost, ready-to-teach cloud computing curriculum that prepares students to pursue industry-recognized certifications and in-demand cloud jobs.

“We are thankful for the hard work and effort of IVE information technology discipline in collaboration with AWS to demonstrate Hong Kong’s effort in pushing cloud education,” said Dr. Joseph H. P. Leung, academic director of IVE information technology discipline. “The Higher Diploma in Cloud and Data Centre Administration prepares students to take several AWS Certification exams including AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate, and AWS Certified Developer – Associate. These certifications will help connect AWS customers and partners with certified cloud professionals.”

For the past five years, LinkedIn named cloud computing as a top hard skill companies are seeking, and the demand for entry-level cloud talent continues to grow. To help close this gap and ensure IVE students have the skills they need to pursue cloud roles after graduation, IVE collaborated with AWS to build new curriculum for this program. The courses within the program include content for students to learn the top cloud skills to prepare students for entry-level cloud careers. This announcement is one of many AWS helped launch around the world—from India to Bahrain to the United States.
