To nurture future diverse leaders in technology during Black History Month, AWS worked across the United States to educate the next generation of students on cloud computing, cloud career opportunities, and how to excel in the technology industry. AWS Educate and the Americas-based AWS solutions architecture team worked together at Bowie State University during a two-day, student-centered event near Amazon HQ2. Almost 150 students from the technology and security, computer science, and management of information systems departments came to learn about the AWS builder culture, AWS Educate resources, and early-career technical roles through Tech U.

Last week, the bipartisan Supporting Veterans in STEM Careers Act (S.153) was signed, which will assist veterans re-entering the workforce and encourage veterans to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). At AWS, we’ve developed a number of programs focused on engaging the military community, helping them gain AWS technical skills, and develop successful careers.

Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University in Australia announced the launch of its Cyber Ready Cloud Innovation Centre (CIC). The CIC will focus on cloud-based cyber security solutions, enabling students to tackle cyber issues in the real world through innovative cloud computing approaches and emerging technology.

Oklahoma State University in Oklahoma City (OSU-OKC), a two-year, technical-focused college, has historically faced challenges with consistent reporting, database management, and analytics. Technology generalists hired to do these tasks required extensive training to successfully extract data from traditional student information systems, manipulate data for state and federal compliance reporting, and generate limited campus reporting for operational or academic program review and analysis.
