AWS re/Start is a no-cost, cohort-based, workforce development training program that first launched in the MENA region in June 2021. The program helps individuals build cloud computing skills and connects participants with employment opportunities with local employers. Over one year on from the graduation of the first AWS re/Start cohorts, AWS re/Start congratulates the many program participants, across nine countries in the region, that have launched their careers in the cloud.

The United Arab Emirates Space Agency and AWS have signed a Statement of Strategic Intent and Cooperation that is designed to support the creation of a vibrant, sustainable, competitive, and innovative space sector in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) and Bahrain Oncology Center is a 600-bed-hospital in Bahrain. Over the years, KHUH faced constraints with exponential growth of their on-premise storage needs, particularly with the medical images stored by their picture archiving and communication system (PACS). KHUH turned to AWS to develop a cost- and time-effective long-term storage solution, without making changes to their existing PACS, that reduced storage costs by 40%.

On March 31, the AWS Summit Brussels returned to the Egg in Brussels, Belgium, where Max Peterson, vice president of AWS worldwide public sector, and Isabella Groeger-Cechowicz, vice president of AWS worldwide public sector of EMEA sales, took the stage for the event’s keynote. United Arab Emirates-based global EdTech Alef Education is on a mission to digitally transform the education sector to support its most valuable resource: teachers. The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Institute for Statistics estimates that the world needs almost 69 million new teachers by 2030 to meet the deadline of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal for quality education. But according to latest projections, the world will fail its education commitments without addressing the teacher shortage.

The World Bank, in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS), and the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation for Education (AGFE), hosted the Skills for The Future Initiative (SFI) at Zayed University in Dubai on June 19th and 20th. The program introduced the next generation of technology leaders in the United Arab Emirates to the skills needed to prepare them for the jobs of the future. The two-day training bootcamp attracted students from 12 institutes who learned about the changing nature of work and received introductory training on cloud technology leveraging AWS Educate resources.
