Overview

MOCHI Technologies (MOCHI) wants to make artificial intelligence (AI) more accessible to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The Malaysia-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider helps more than 1000 SMEs manage marketing, customer relationships, human resources, and operations. It handles over 1 million business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) records and supports more than 450,000 active loyalty members across the platform. As interest in AI grew, the company broadened its focus to help SMEs apply AI to everyday business needs.

Building on Amazon Web Services (AWS), MOCHI scales and manages its platform with a lean team while developing new AI capabilities. The company plans to bring these tools together in a more integrated, AI-powered platform as it grows beyond Malaysia.

About MOCHI Technologies

MOCHI Technologies is a Malaysia-based SaaS company that helps SMEs manage marketing, customer relationships, HR, and operations through an all-in-one platform. The company draws on more than 20 years of experience serving SMEs across Malaysia.

Opportunity | Using Amazon EC2 to support platform evolution for MOCHI

As interest in AI grew, MOCHI found that SMEs were looking for practical ways to apply the technology to their businesses. Their readiness and priorities varied, with opportunities for AI differing across industries. Recognizing this, the company set out to combine its experience serving SMEs with agentic AI tools designed around day-to-day workflows. MOCHI is developing use cases that include AI agents, knowledge bases, and customer relationship management (CRM) automation.

The company already runs its platform on AWS, including  Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), which provides secure, resizable compute capacity for virtually any workload. As MOCHI adds new AI capabilities, its technical team continues to manage and evolve its existing platform. The company aims to build on its established AWS environment while optimizing infrastructure costs and maintaining security.

Solution | Building scalable AI capabilities on AWS

Using AWS, MOCHI's 12-person technical team can scale and manage its established SaaS platform efficiently. The company has also reduced infrastructure costs by 30% percent while maintaining the security of its environment and developing new AI capabilities.

For its core infrastructure, MOCHI runs Amazon EC2 together with Elastic Load Balancing (ELB), which distributes incoming application traffic across resources. Together, these services support the SaaS platform's scalability and availability. To manage its platform data, MOCHI uses Amazon Relational Database Service for MySQL (Amazon RDS for MySQL), a managed relational database service. For storage, the company turns to Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS), a block storage service for use with Amazon EC2 instances. By managing its compute, data, and storage on AWS, MOCHI can scale its platform while ensuring 100 percent availability with a lean technical team.

For security, MOCHI utilizes AWS WAF, a web application firewall that helps protect applications against common web exploits and bots. In one instance, the company detected and blocked a cyberattack within 10 minutes. MOCHI also deploys Amazon CloudWatch, a monitoring and observability service, to track the health and performance of its services. In addition, the company uses Amazon Quick Sight, a business intelligence service, for additional visibility into its environment.

The company's AI development now includes testing Amazon Nova Lite, an Amazon Nova foundation model available through Amazon Bedrock, a fully managed service for building generative AI applications. MOCHI is assessing Amazon Nova Lite for its speed, output quality, and cost while exploring broader use of Amazon Nova models across its services. With this approach, the company can evaluate AI models against the performance and cost requirements of SME use cases before expanding their use across its platform.

Beyond technology, MOCHI participates in AWS go-to-market activities. Through the AWS Partner Network (APN), a global community of AWS Partners, the company connects with other independent software vendors (ISVs) and industry organizations.

Outcome | Reaching more SMEs across Southeast Asia

Looking ahead, MOCHI is exploring containerization to modernize its architecture, supporting future growth and paving the way for broader adoption of agentic AI.

MOCHI also aims to extend its reach beyond Malaysia, with the goal of serving 500,000 SMEs across Southeast Asia. The company is working with the AWS Partner Network's Go Global program to identify potential markets for expansion.

"We've built MOCHI around the needs of SMEs. With AWS, we can keep scaling that vision and make practical AI accessible to more businesses across Southeast Asia," said Ang Kar Hoe, General Manager, AI & Technology Innovation, MOCHI Technologies.
