Harnessing the Power of Calico Cloud: A Comprehensive Review

  • July 06, 2023
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
From the outset, let me emphasize how transformative it has been to integrate Calico Cloud into our tech ecosystem. Calico Cloud has proven to be one of those solutions that revolutionizes the way businesses manage their networking needs and security on Kubernetes. A refreshing embodiment of innovation and performance, Calico Cloud's true worth is found in its multifaceted features that, combined, streamline the complexities of modern networking.

The most helpful attribute of Calico Cloud is its capability to provide an enterprise-grade security and networking solution for multi-cluster, multi-cloud, and hybrid cloud environments. It’s this ability to adapt to various infrastructure complexities that stands out as one of its key selling points. It simplifies the network policies enforcement, visibility, and troubleshooting, effectively serving as a one-stop solution for all things networking.

With Calico Cloud, network policy creation and enforcement become far less daunting tasks. It ensures consistent policy implementation across different clusters, regardless of their location. Therefore, its network policies are not only easier to enforce but also greatly enhance security and compliance. The end result is a heightened security posture and reduced risk - a boon for any organization.

The service's distributed architecture is another major upside. By leveraging this approach, Calico Cloud allows us to scale our operations seamlessly and without the accompanying headaches. The scalability and resilience of our systems have significantly improved, thanks to Calico Cloud's impressive networking capabilities.

Calico Cloud's multi-tenant, as-a-service model also adds a layer of efficiency that can't be overstated. It provides simplified operational management and complete visibility into our applications' communication patterns, improving our ability to identify and respond to potential threats or performance issues in a timely manner.

In conclusion, Calico Cloud is a formidable player in the realm of network management and security. It brings scalability, consistency, and efficiency to the table - qualities that are often elusive in complex Kubernetes environments. Its ability to simplify network policy enforcement, provide detailed visibility, and accommodate multi-cloud environments positions it as a solution that is not only helpful but essential. For anyone looking to upgrade their networking game in today's complex tech world, Calico Cloud is certainly a recommendation that sits at the top of my list.
What do you dislike about the product?
Despite its advantages, Calico Cloud has a few challenges worth mentioning. Firstly, the steep learning curve might be intimidating for new or less tech-savvy users. Greater simplicity in its onboarding process could help alleviate this issue.

Secondly, its configuration process, particularly for complex, multi-cluster environments, can be tedious and time-consuming. More automation and streamlined operations would enhance user experience significantly.

Lastly, the platform's as-a-service model, while generally beneficial, may limit customizability for organizations with specific networking needs. Increased flexibility in this area would make Calico Cloud more appealing.

In essence, while Calico Cloud has considerable strengths, its learning curve, configuration process, and limited customizability are areas where there is room for improvement.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our journey with Calico Cloud has been transformative. As a tool adept at handling Kubernetes networking complexities, it's helping us solve numerous business challenges, contributing to a more efficient, secure, and scalable operation.

One of the significant problems Calico Cloud is helping us tackle is the management of network policies across our multi-cluster, multi-cloud environments. It's enabling consistent policy implementation, irrespective of the location of the clusters. This has reduced the complexity in network management, enhancing our overall security and compliance posture.

Moreover, Calico Cloud has drastically improved our scalability. Thanks to its distributed architecture, we can grow our operations smoothly, accommodating increased traffic without compromising system performance. This scalability ensures we meet our customers' demands effectively, enhancing our business's reliability and reputation.

Finally, the visibility Calico Cloud offers into our application communication patterns has been instrumental in improving our threat detection and response times. We can now identify potential threats or performance issues faster, allowing us to act swiftly and mitigate any potential damage. This increased visibility and control are invaluable in safeguarding our operations, making us more resilient and secure.

In summary, Calico Cloud is assisting us in overcoming a variety of business challenges. By simplifying network management, enabling seamless scalability, and improving our security, it's proving to be an indispensable asset to our operations.

Efficient and reliable way to setup app connectivity

  • December 09, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
App connectivity is crucial on a Kubernetes-based environment, and Calico does a beautiful job setting up the same. It's relatively easy and dependable when setting up ingress/egress in a hybrid setup
What do you dislike about the product?
I faced a few errors, like pod readiness errors and ingress-related issues. I had to spend a lot of time understanding the problem and getting to the root cause to fix it. But I guess it this natural for any new product to explore and appreciate if there is a known issue community for Calico to get quick clues in problem fixing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I was on a learning project to set up app connectivity with some basic security controls. Experimenting with Calico was easy, and I could get my PoC running quickly.
