Approximately 400 kilometers above the Earth’s surface, Japan Manned Space Systems Corporation (JAMSS) used an AWS Snowcone SSD onboard the International Space Station (ISS) to quickly and autonomously transmit large volumes of data from space back on the ground into AWS. The AWS Snowcone, which arrived on the ISS in July 2022 as part of the first Axiom Space Mission (Ax-1), is available to power on-orbit data processing experiments for researchers, students, and scientific organizations.

The AWS public sector and AWS Training and Certification (T&C) teams worked with customers and partners across Latin America, Canada, and Caribbean (LCC) region to develop and test the recently launched AWS Industry Quest: Healthcare, an interactive learning experience that teaches how to build cloud solutions that can benefit healthcare customers globally.

INFINITT Healthcare, a healthcare technology (HealthTech) company based in South Korea, is working to streamline digital pathology by extracting and transforming whole-slide imaging (WSI) output as a Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) file—a digital version of WSI that is helping pathologists save time and resources, streamline multidisciplinary communication, and accelerate time to solutions in patient care. This is then stored in their cloud-based digital pathology system (DPS) built on AWS.

We continuously review emerging and evolving technologies, seeking to leverage them to reimagine and improve services, lower costs, and enhance efficiency. The success of a recent translation project that harnesses the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud services is a prime example of this.

BioMark is a digital diagnostics and therapeutics company that offers cutting-edge solutions to more than 7,000 clinics and 63 hospitals in Southeast Asia. The company’s services are available in Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, and Indonesia, where it provides over 30 million lab results for patients across these clinics. BioMark enables medical professionals to access lab results quickly and efficiently, allowing for faster and more accurate diagnosis and treatment. They use AWS to build their digital solutions.

AWS announced the 13 startups selected to participate in the AWS European Defence Accelerator. The startups offer solutions to help the European Defence industry enhance its energy resilience, secure information sharing, sensing and decision making, quantum, and cyber resilience for mission-critical needs for land, air, maritime, space, and cyber domains. Applications were invited from startups around the globe who are interested in doing business with defence and national security organizations across Europe.

EdIndia Foundation is an Indian nonprofit organization whose mission is to create innovative solutions that impact the quality of education at scale. EdIndia’s research showed that between the ages of 8–11, there is a stark difference in learning outcomes of students taught by high-performing teachers compared with low-performing teachers. EdIndia saw an opportunity to address this problem using AWS.

Sekolah.mu is the first blended learning system in Indonesia that offers learning programs for all types of learners. Their mission is to engage Indonesian K12 school children to help them succeed in key competencies and future achievements by providing quality education services with a personalized and flexible curriculum. Sekolah.mu knew it was integral to secure their digital education services to earn the trust and confidence of the students, teachers, and families. Sekolah.mu built their education platform on AWS to achieve this important mission.

Sustainability is now an integral part of business strategy, even as the sustainability landscape is continuously evolving. At the AWS Public Sector Day 2023 held in London, public sector leaders gathered to learn and share how technology can help organisations achieve more with less in solving sustainability challenges. Two AWS customers shared how they’re rethinking traditional operations and innovating with the cloud to support their sustainability initiatives.

According to a new economic impact study (EIS) from AWS, AWS has invested ZAR 15.6 billion through 2022 to meet customer demand for cloud computing services. Thousands of South African customers have used AWS technologies to transform their businesses and accelerate their innovation, agility, and cost savings since AWS launched the AWS Africa (Cape Town) Region in 2020. According to the EIS, AWS operations will add an estimated ZAR 68 billion more to South Africa’s GDP by 2029. AWS’s investment impacts other parts of the South African economy as well, helping develop the next generation of workforce, digitally transform businesses, and promote sustainability throughout the country.
