Migrating to AWS for a Modernized Data Architecture
Founded in 2002, Technodom has 79 stores and 92 pick-up points across 28 cities in Kazakhstan. The company developed a digital transformation strategy to improve business growth in 2022. Technodom’s previous architecture relied on on-premises data centers with high maintenance costs, limited scalability, and low efficiency.
Making use of 47 AWS services, the company chose to design a new data architecture on AWS to overcome these challenges. In the beginning of the project, Technodom engaged qCloudy, an AWS Partner, to launch a proof of concept using AWS services. The company also consulted AWS compliance experts to implement best practices for data security and privacy.
Increasing Development Productivity by 40 Percent Using AWS
Working alongside AWS, Technodom began a gradual migration in 2022. It implemented a data platform using the lake house concept, which powers data-driven decisions with an excellent price-performance cloud data warehouse. Technodom uses AWS services to manage and secure its data lake, to orchestrate complex workflows, and to handle near real-time data processing. The company achieves robust data governance and seamless data flow, which drives its decision-making and innovation.
By the end of 2022, Technodom had a cloud-based infrastructure and implemented several ML models using Amazon SageMaker, a fully managed service that brings together a broad set of tools for high-performance, low-cost ML for virtually any use case. “By using ML models built on AWS SageMaker and automating the ML pipeline, we provide personalized recommendations for each store’s product assortment, leading to a sales increase of up to 15 percent in certain categories and reducing the manual processing time for the assortment by our category managers. This automation has significantly boosted efficiency and productivity in our operations,” says Nikita Gavrilov, head of data science at Technodom.
Technodom increased data quality by 70 percent and development productivity by 40 percent using AWS. It also minimized maintenance costs and can now scale resources to optimize operational expenses. In addition, by using AWS services, Technodom had a competitive advantage and improved time to market in launching new projects.
Enhancing Analytics Using AWS and Artificial Intelligence
Technodom continues to focus on scalability and the ability to make quick changes. The company is expanding its advanced ML models using Amazon SageMaker and artificial intelligence, further enhancing its data analytics capabilities, and driving innovation using AWS.
“We have used AWS to achieve our goals of innovation and digital transformation by providing a modern, secure cloud architecture that supports advanced analytics and machine learning,” says Eduard Kim, head of data and analytical officer at Technodom.
