HPC on AWS for COVID-19 Research and Development
As part of the COVID-19 HPC Consortium, AWS is offering research institutions and companies technical support and promotional credits for the use of AWS services to advance research on diagnosis, treatment, and vaccine studies to accelerate our collective understanding of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Researchers and scientists working on time-critical projects can use AWS to instantly access virtually unlimited infrastructure capacity, and the latest technologies in compute, storage and networking to accelerate time to results.
Researchers are invited to submit COVID-19 related research proposals to the COVID-19 HPC Consortium via the online portal. Proposals are evaluated by a panel of experts and selected proposals will be matched with computing resources from one of the participating consortium members.
Get started with HPC on AWS
If your project has been assigned to AWS, here are the basic steps you would follow to get started on AWS.
Note: AWS will provide you with technical support to set up your HPC cluster and get started with your project.

AWS Diagnostic Development Initiative (DDI)
The AWS Diagnostic Development Initiative (DDI) provides support for innovation in rapid and accurate patient testing for 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and other diagnostic solutions to mitigate future outbreaks. AWS is offering technical support and providing AWS promotional credits to support the use of AWS services to advance diagnostic research for selected institutions and companies.
A public data lake for analysis of COVID-19 data
AWS has made a public AWS COVID-19 data lake available. It is a centralized repository of up-to-date and curated datasets on or related to the spread and characteristics of the novel corona virus (SARS-CoV-2) and its associated illness, COVID-19. Globally, there are several efforts underway to gather this data, and we are working with partners to make this crucial data freely available and keep it up-to-date. Hosted on the AWS cloud, we have seeded our curated data lake with COVID-19 case tracking data from Johns Hopkins and The New York Times, hospital bed availability from Definitive Healthcare, and over 45,000 research articles about COVID-19 and related coronaviruses from the Allen Institute for AI. We will regularly add to this data lake as other reliable sources make their data publicly available.
