Predicting diabetic patient readmission using multi-model training on Amazon SageMaker Pipelines

Diabetes is a major chronic disease that often results in hospital readmissions due to multiple factors. An estimated $25 billion is spent on preventable hospital readmissions that result from medical errors and complications, poor discharge procedures, and lack of integrated follow-up care. If hospitals can predict diabetic patient readmission, medical practitioners can provide additional and personalized care to their patients to pre-empt this possible readmission, thus possibly saving cost, time, and human life. In this blog post, learn how to use machine learning (ML) from AWS to create a solution that can predict hospital readmission – in this case, of diabetic patients – based on multiple data inputs.

Singapore’s OneNUHS App uses AWS to help patients take ownership of their health

Singapore’s National University Health System (NUHS) collaborated with Integrated Health Information Systems (IHiS), Singapore’s technology agency for the public sector, to develop the OneNUHS App. The mobile healthcare application extends healthcare services beyond the hospital, providing telehealth services like video consultations with doctors and more. To accelerate time-to-launch, save costs, and support reliable access for Singaporeans, the OneNUHS app uses AWS.

How to modernize legacy HL7 data in Amazon HealthLake

Healthcare providers and healthcare systems want to modernize their healthcare data exchanges so they can better analyze and gain more insight from their clinical data. In this walkthrough, learn how to use AWS to migrate legacy healthcare messaging data into Amazon HealthLake, which can use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to discover meaningful and actionable healthcare information embedded in unstructured text.

Japan’s High Energy Accelerator Research Organization, KEK, accelerates search for new vaccines with AWS

Japan’s High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), is a Nobel Award-winning Inter-University Research Institute, and one of the world’s leading accelerator research institutes. To further help researchers understand human biology, AWS and KEK recently announced a collaboration to develop GoToCloud, a KEK-led cloud platform that makes protein analysis faster and more cost-effective, boosting KEK’s research efforts and improving our understanding of disease. This initiative has also accelerated the digital transformation of Japan’s scientific research infrastructure, helping scientists discover new medicines and produce world-class research results using cloud technology.

Accelerating innovation in Australia and New Zealand: AWS Summit Canberra keynote recap

On Wednesday, August 31, Max Peterson, vice president of worldwide public sector at AWS, delivered the keynote address at the AWS Summit Canberra. Max shared regional announcements and local stories of how public sector customers are using the cloud to transform citizen services, innovate in healthcare, improve sustainability, and more. Two customer speakers joined the stage to share how AWS helps their organizations support their mission success and reimagine what’s possible. What’d you miss at the AWS Summit Canberra keynote?

AWS announces the 10 startups selected for the 2022 AWS Healthcare Accelerator focused on health equity

AWS announced the 10 finalists for the 2022 AWS Healthcare Accelerator focused on improving health equity. This year’s cohort brought forward innovative ideas that will improve access to care, provide actionable health equity data, expand access to medical transport, and help people without a home reach housing and health goals. Over the course of the four-week Accelerator program, these 10 startups will receive technical and business mentorship from AWS and KidsX experts, up to $25,000 in AWS Computing Credits, and collaboration opportunities with AWS healthcare customers, industry leaders, and members of AWS Partner Network (APN) looking for healthcare solutions.

Building a resilient and scalable clinical genomics analysis pipeline with AWS

At the Baylor College of Medicine Human Genome Sequencing Center (BCM HGSC), we aim to advance precision medicine and research in genomics. In that effort, we joined the ambitious All of Us Research Program funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to help deliver genomic data to over one million individuals across the United States. In early 2019, we estimated that processing whole genome samples for this megaproject would imply a scale-up of over four times the production workload of our center. We used AWS to support our new pipeline demands, which saved time, reduced costs, and created new opportunities for future development.

Advancing health equity with ET3 programs and AWS

eVisit’s role as a participant in the AWS Health Equity Initiative provided me with the opportunity to serve as a panelist at this year’s AWS Summit Washington, DC in May. I presented alongside other AWS health equity program partners to outline our collective efforts to increase access to healthcare services in underserved communities, reduce disparities by addressing social determinants of health (SDoH), and leverage data to promote equitable systems of care.

New research shows EU and UK healthcare sectors could save 14.4 billion euros with AWS

The AWS Cloud Economics Centre published a new analysis that identified 14.4 billion euros in potential information technology (IT) savings across the European Union and United Kingdom healthcare sectors over the next five years—the equivalent of 5,665 euros per hospital bed—through the digital transformation of IT systems by migrating to the cloud.
