HONG KONG — May 8, 2025 — Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Cyberport today announced a three-year collaboration and the establishment of an AWS Joint Innovation Center (JIC) to further drive Hong Kong's innovation and technology development. The collaboration will focus on four key areas: accelerating startup development, driving AI commercialization, advancing FinTech innovation, and tech talent cultivation. Through a series of collaborative initiatives, both parties will work together to support local startup development and strengthen Hong Kong's position as a global innovation hub.
AWS JIC is a collaborative innovation program designed for enterprises and institutions. By combining resources, it incubates promising startups and nurtures digital talent. Additionally, the JIC is committed to connecting local markets with the AWS global startup community, creating more opportunities for startup development and overseas market expansion. To date, AWS has established over ten such cooperative innovation programs worldwide, including in Singapore, India, and Taiwan.
Tony Wong, the Commissioner for Digital Policy, said: “Looking ahead, the Government will continue to promote digital transformation and AI development in Hong Kong. While the active participation of the industry is key to innovation breakthroughs, I look forward to the newly launched partnership between Cyberport and AWS, providing a collaborative platform for local startups and research institutions to accelerate the application of their research outcomes. Together, we will seize the immense potential of AI innovation and build a smarter and better Hong Kong.”
Simon Chan, Chairman of Cyberport, said: “This collaboration between Cyberport and AWS, a member of the Cyberport Technology Network (CTN), marks a significant step forward in our commitment to fostering the development of Hong Kong's innovation and technology ecosystem. As Hong Kong's digital technology hub and incubator for entrepreneurship, Cyberport is home to over 2,200 companies. By combining Cyberport's experience and expertise in nurturing the local I&T ecosystem with AWS's extensive global resources, we will provide strong support for startups, particularly in the field of AI and FinTech, to accelerate the commercialization of their innovative ideas and help them expand their global business opportunities. We look forward to continuing to work with industry partners to inject new momentum into Hong Kong's I&T development.”
Robert Wang, Managing Director of AWS Hong Kong and Taiwan, said: “Startups are the core driving force behind Hong Kong's innovation and technology development, and AWS has always been committed to fostering Hong Kong's innovation landscape. Our collaboration with Cyberport marks a significant milestone in our commitment to deepening Hong Kong's innovation and technology development. By combining our unique strengths, we believe the AWS Joint Innovation Center at Cyberport will provide Hong Kong startups with a springboard to transform innovative ideas into reality. We will provide startups with the necessary support and work with Cyberport to strengthen Hong Kong's position as an international innovation and technology hub.”
The collaboration between AWS and Cyberport will focus on four key areas:
- Accelerating Startup Development: AWS and Cyberport aim to support over 100 startups annually, further optimizing the Hong Kong startup incubation environment. AWS and Cyberport will provide promising startups with AWS cloud resources, technical support, and expert consultation. Additionally, AWS industry experts will be stationed at Cyberport to offer dedicated on-site technical assistance, supporting startups in every stage of development, from ideation to scaling. As a first step, the "AWS & Cyberport Co-nurturing Fintech Startups Program" launched in February 2025, provided comprehensive support to over ten FinTech companies, with similar programs planned for the future.
- Driving AI Commercialization: AWS will launch various programs to support Cyberport in building a comprehensive AI environment. The goal is to jointly support at least 20 local institutions, R&D centers, and startups annually in implementing AI and generative AI solutions. AWS will provide workshops, one-on-one expert consultations, and targeted solution recommendations to help AI-focused startups transition from development to commercial operations. AWS will also help these companies list their products on the AWS Marketplace, thereby expanding their global reach.
- Advancing FinTech Innovation: Together with Cyberport, AWS will leverage its leading cloud technology and extensive experience serving global financial services customers to actively participate in Hong Kong government and public sector FinTech initiatives. For example, in the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and Cyberport's Generative AI Sandbox (GenA.I. Sandbox), AWS will leverage its technological advantages to support the responsible development of generative AI applications in banking, assisting participating organizations in testing innovative use cases within a controlled risk framework, with a focus on enhancing risk management, anti-fraud measures, and customer experience. AWS will continue to collaborate with Cyberport to provide solutions and best practices for FinTech use cases, driving the continued development of Hong Kong's FinTech sector.
- Tech Talent Cultivation: AWS and Cyberport will collaborate to cultivate and expand Hong Kong's tech talent pool. CyberportAcademy will integrate AWS Educate resources to provide over 2,200 Cyberport companies with AWS-certified cloud training courses, catering to various skill levels. AWS will fully support the "Cyberport University PartnershipProgram," providing cloud computing training and internationally recognized cloud certifications to approximately 50 startup teams. AWS has globally trained over 31 million learners from 200 countries and regions, and has trained over 100,000 people in Hong Kong since 2014. Through this collaboration, AWS will continue to equip students and young entrepreneurs with the skills needed to succeed in the digital economy, laying a solid foundation for Hong Kong's continued innovation and development.
