As we continue to see our public sector customers move more mission-critical workloads and applications to the cloud, we seek to further support them, delivering on the tools and services they need to focus on their organization’s goals. To help customers move to the cloud securely and successfully, we have collaborated with SAP National Security Services, Inc. (SAP NS2), an AWS Government Competency Partner with an AWS GovCloud (US) Skill.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has multiple Identity partitions: AWS, AWS GovCloud (US), and AWS China. You can see these represented in their ARNs (arn:aws, arn:aws-us-gov, arn:aws-cn). For security, services like Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) do not have access to credentials beyond their boundaries, which can make it difficult to transfer information from inside one Identity boundary to another. There is a new tool though, that reduces time and complexity for customers migrating their workloads into AWS GovCloud (US) – gov-cloud-import.

AWS Marketplace helps governments and other public sector organizations deliver better services faster with cloud-based software through a curated digital catalog. Customers can find, buy, deploy, and immediately start using software and solutions offered by popular software vendors in the online store. With access to more than 4,200 software listings from more than 1,280 Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), public sector customers are able to access both traditional technology and technology from small businesses to operate more efficiently and innovate faster.

National defense organizations have some of the most demanding software requirements in the world. Stringent security standards and complex environments make it challenging for developers to work efficiently. Because systems are deployed across large, proprietary government data centers, development teams find it challenging to create production-like environments for coding and testing. This, in turn, reduces the number of testing cycles that can be performed in a given amount of time.

In order to provide our customers with additional flexibility to architect scalable, fault-tolerant, and highly available workloads in AWS GovCloud (US), we have added a third Availability Zone (AZ) to the AWS GovCloud (US) Region, Amazon’s isolated cloud region designed to host sensitive data and regulated workloads that address the most stringent U.S. government security and compliance requirements.

When the United States Air Force was looking to automate IT risk management and security compliance of NIPRNet and SIPRNet environments across the enterprise, their search led them to Xacta 360, the risk management and compliance solution from AWS Partner Network (APN) partner Telos Corporation. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides patient care and federal benefits to Veterans and their dependents. The organization is split up into silos of health, benefit, and cemetery benefits; VA’s web presence was similarly fractured and users had difficulty interacting with VA online. The U.S. Digital Service team at VA looked across VA’s many products from the point of view of the Veteran. What do they want to do? How do they want to interact with VA? They started as a small team, iteratively building out features on Vets.gov.
