Finding the perfect moment: How Formula 1® uses AWS AI to search archives in seconds

F1 worked with AWS to migrate petabytes of footage from ageing tape robots, in multiple formats and proxy files, into Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) alongside the live footage from every new race. That gave the sport one durable home for its heritage: the F1 Video Archive. In April 2026, F1 upgraded the archive with a new Media Archive Discovery system. Working with Amazon Web Services (AWS), the team added Amazon Bedrock in a deliberately narrow role: a layer that reads a request in plain language, works out what it means, looks up any facts it depends on, and turns it into a precise search the archive can retrieve.

AWS AI shines at IBC 2026

From the halls of the RAI to local gatherings in Amsterdam, conversations around this year’s International Broadcasting Convention (IBC Show) centered on AI and collaboration. A reported 41,225 attendees from 170 countries and 1,300 exhibitors attended the event, held September 11-14, 2026. Amazon Web Services (AWS) hosted hands-on demos of new services, in-depth sessions, and events that reflected the rapidly changing industry landscape.

Evaluate your content with AWS Elemental Inference using the sample clipping portal

Evaluate your content with AWS Elemental Inference using the sample clipping portal

In this post, we introduce a sample application that helps you answer that question for AWS Elemental Inference. The sample is a deployable video clipping portal for live sports. You run it in your own AWS account, point it at your own content, and see how automated highlight detection, smart cropping, and smart subtitles behave end to end. We walk through the customer problem, the architecture, the capabilities it demonstrates, and how to deploy it.

How 5 runs live pop-up events from a browser with AWS Elemental MediaLive

How 5 runs live pop-up events from a browser with AWS Elemental MediaLive

In this post, we describe how, on top of that pipeline, 5 built a browser-based console where a single remote operator can run a live pop-up event (with monitoring, input switching, ad signaling, and graphics) using the control capabilities of AWS Elemental MediaLive. Because these events arrive on an international feed shared with other broadcasters, the console also has to supply what a viewer would normally get from a produced channel: holding slates between segments, and on-screen messaging in 5’s own brand.
