Amazon EC2 now offers SQL Server Enterprise Edition in AWS US West (N. California), South America (Sao Paolo), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Seoul), Asia Pacific (Mumbai), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), EU (Frankfurt), and AWS GovCloud regions running on any instance type with a minimum of 4 vCPUs, including M4, X1, R3, and several other instance types. You can now launch SQL Server Enterprise On-Demand on Windows Server 2012R2 and Windows Server 2016 operating systems. Reserved Instances pricing is coming soon.

With this offering, you can now leverage important SQL Server Enterprise features such as AlwaysOn for high availability, deeper security through enhanced encryption, and advanced real-time analytics capabilities with in-memory processing. All SQL Server versions integrate with Amazon EBS, enabling you to take advantage of the persistence and high performance (such as provisioned IOPS) for all your databases.

We are also reducing the pricing for R3 instance types running SQL Server Enterprise by up to 25% in US East (Northern Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), and EU (Ireland). The new prices can be found on the Amazon EC2 pricing page

You can launch your SQL Server Enterprise Edition AMI either directly from the AWS Management Console or from the AWS Marketplace. For more information on SQL Server and features by edition, visit the Microsoft SQL Server on AWS page here
