AWS Glue DataBrew customers are now able to format phone numbers in their datasets to the E.164 standard phone number format using DataBrew’s interactive, point-and-click visual interface. E.164 is the international telephone numbering plan that standardizes a phone number as [+] [country code] [subscriber number including area code] and can have a maximum of fifteen digits. This transformation is intended for users who want to accelerate the standardization of phone numbers for downstream software system integrations without writing any code.

Customers can specify a default country code, or select an existing country column in the dataset to automatically populate the appropriate country code in each valid phone number within DataBrew. Using this transformation, you can correlate the standardized phone numbers across datasets, and use them efficiently for data analysis and reporting.

This transformation is available in most public AWS Regions and AWS GovCloud (US-West). See where AWS Glue DataBrew is available by using the AWS Region Table. AWS Glue DataBrew is a visual data preparation tool that makes it easy to clean and normalize data using over 350 pre-built transformations, all without the need to write any code. You can automate filtering anomalies, converting data to standard formats, correcting invalid values, and other tasks.
