Today, AWS announces improvements to the image extraction functionality within Amazon Kinesis Video Streams. Now customers can extract images at a rate of 5 frames per second, improved from one image every 3 seconds. Customers can now use high frequency sampling for ML inferencing and a rich playback experience.

Amazon Kinesis Video Streams image extraction is a fully-managed capability that allows customers to request images via API calls or configure automatic image generation from ingested video. Images can be leveraged in machine learning pipelines, including Amazon Sagemaker, Amazon Rekognition, or custom solutions. Customers can also use this capability for enhanced playback applications such as thumbnails or enhanced timeline scrubbing.

Image extraction capabilities are available in all regions where Amazon Kinesis Video Streams is available. To learn more, see documentation here.
