Amazon RDS now supports Oracle Database 11.2.0.4v2

Posted on: Oct 16, 2014

You can now launch new RDS DB instances running Oracle 11.2.0.4v2 and upgrade existing Amazon RDS for Oracle DB instances with just a few clicks in the AWS Management Console. The new RDS Oracle Database version includes the July 2014 Oracle Patch Set Update (PSU) 11.2.0.4.3, improvements in handling XA transactions, better Oracle LogMiner support, and other benefits.

To create a new Oracle 11.2.0.4v2 DB instance when using the "Launch DB Instance Wizard" in the AWS Management Console, select the DB engine Version "11.2.0.4v2". To upgrade an existing database instance, use the "Modify" option in the AWS Management Console and select the DB engine version "11.2.0.4v2". Before you upgrade a production database instance, we recommend that you test the upgrade process with a test DB instance to verify the duration of the upgrade process as well as test your application with the new DB engine version. We do not recommend upgrading micro DB instances because the upgrade process may run for a long time and impact database performance.
