AWS CloudTrail now records launch and termination events for Amazon EC2 Spot Instances. If you already have AWS CloudTrail logging enabled, no further action is necessary. These events will begin to appear in your existing trails in each region over the next few days, so that you can perform security analysis, change tracking, and compliance auditing of your Spot instance usage.

Amazon EC2 Spot instances allow you to bid for spare Amazon EC2 compute capacity. Spot instances are available at up to 90% off On-Demand pricing, making them suitable for running large scale computing tasks, increasing throughput of your existing applications, or simply reducing costs. To get started, request Spot instances in the AWS Management Console.

AWS CloudTrail is a web service that records AWS API calls and other events for your account and delivers log files to you. The information recorded for Spot instances includes the time of the launch or termination, the Spot instance ID, and the Spot instance request ID. To get started using AWS CloudTrail, visit the AWS Management Console or check out Getting Started with CloudTrail.
