This new Quick Start helps you deploy Oracle Database 12c Enterprise Edition on the AWS Cloud.

Oracle Database is a relational database management platform that is widely used by enterprises of all sizes. AWS provides a flexible cloud infrastructure to run your Oracle Database with security, highly availability, and support for small, medium, and large databases.

You can choose to run Oracle Database in Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), which manages database setup, operations, and scaling for you, or in a self-managed configuration on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). This Quick Start deploys Oracle Database on Amazon EC2, for users who want full control over their database operations.

The Quick Start creates the AWS infrastructure and deploys Oracle Database 12c Enterprise Edition on AWS in approximately one hour. It builds an Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) in a Multi-AZ configuration to provide data replication and high availability for your database instances. (You can also choose to deploy the Quick Start into your existing VPC.) It deploys an Oracle primary database, sets up a standby instance, and sets up DATA and RECO disk groups. The Quick Start installs Oracle ASM for storage management and Oracle Data Guard for database setup and replication. You can also include the Oracle Secure Backup (OSB) Cloud Module for backups. The deployment and configuration tasks are automated by AWS CloudFormation templates that you can customize during launch.

The Quick Start also includes a deployment guide, which describes the reference architecture and provides step-by-step instructions for deploying and configuring Oracle Database on AWS. The guide also covers data migration and backup options in detail.

Quick Starts are automated reference deployments for key workloads on the AWS Cloud. Each Quick Start launches, configures, and runs the AWS compute, network, storage, and other services required to deploy a specific workload on AWS, using AWS best practices for security and availability.
