Today AWS Direct Connect has landed for the first time on the African continent with two new sites in Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa. In Cape Town, AWS Direct Connect is at the Teraco CT1 data center and in Johannesburg, at the Teraco JB1 data center. Both these AWS Direct Connect sites can be found under the EU West (Ireland) AWS region in the AWS Management Console. With global access enabled for AWS Direct Connect, these sites can reach AWS resources in any global AWS region.
Customers in South Africa can now establish a dedicated network connection from their premises to AWS. As with any AWS Direct Connect site, these sites conform to the standard resiliency model that includes two customer facing devices per location that allow customers to establish locally resilient connectivity and redundant connectivity to the Amazon backbone network. Using AWS Direct Connect, you can establish private connectivity between AWS and your datacenter, office, or colocation environment, which in many cases can reduce your network costs, increase bandwidth throughput, and provide a more consistent network experience than Internet-based connections. Connections are always made to a particular Direct Connect location, and can run at either 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps, or work with a partner to connect at speeds less than 1Gbps.
Please see our AWS website for details on our locations and pricing. Instructions on how to set up AWS Direct Connect are available in our AWS Direct Connect Users Guide. Sign in to your AWS Management Console to order AWS Direct Connect today!
