Changes to Tags on AWS Resources Now Generate Amazon CloudWatch Events

Posted on: Sep 27, 2018

Notifications about changes to tags are now available via Amazon CloudWatch Events. This allows you to monitor tag states on your AWS resources.

This feature provides you with a simple way to track tag changes instead of continuously polling APIs or orchestrating multiple calls. Tag changes made through AWS Service consoles and APIs, the Resource Groups Tag Editor, or through Resource Groups Tagging API will trigger the new CloudWatch Event. Using Amazon CloudWatch Events, you can define matching rules on tag changes to execute actions such as an AWS Lambda function that terminates an Amazon EC2 instance.

CloudWatch Events are available at no additional costs. This feature is available in all AWS commercial regions and the AWS GovCloud (US) Region. To get started, visit Getting started with Amazon CloudWatch Events.
