Today, AWS X-Ray is launching trace maps, which enables you to visually map the end to end path of a single request.
With today’s launch, you can use trace maps to quickly understand the path and order of services invoked in a single request and determine the upstream and downstream calls for individual services. Additionally, you are now able to visually identify where the error originated and how it affected other services in the call. While you were previously able to use the trace timeline to understand where time was being spent for an individual request and to acquire details for each remote call, trace maps will make it easier for you to understand at a glance which service is leading to errors/faults and/or to an increase in latency.
Along with trace maps, AWS X-Ray is also launching new capabilities in the service map enabling you to quickly identify and isolate services that are causing performance degradation or increase in error and faults rates. For example, you can now focus on the impacted service and determine how the neighboring services are affected by viewing only the upstream and downstream services with status and metrics hiding all the other nodes in the map.
