Today, AWS Service Catalog announces support for the deprecation of product versions. With the release of product version guidance, administrators can prevent new launches of a product version while allowing their use and updates in existing stacks.
Using Service Catalog version guidance, you can set a product version as deprecated using the API, CLI, or console. Once a version is deprecated, only users with running stacks of that version are able to use it. The version is not available for users provisioning new stacks. If you wish to prevent all use of a product version, including updates, they you can make the version inactive. This feature is available in all commercial and GovCloud regions where AWS Service Catalog is available.
AWS Service Catalog allows organizations to create and manage catalogs of IT services that are approved for use on AWS. These IT services can include everything from virtual machine images, servers, software, and databases to complete multi-tier application architectures. AWS Service Catalog is used by enterprises, system integrators, and managed service providers to organize, govern, and provision cloud resources on AWS.
