AWS Systems Manager now provides flexible reboot options for patching

Posted on: Jan 16, 2020

Patch Manager, a capability of AWS Systems Manager, now gives you the option to defer rebooting after patch installation to a later time. You can choose this option if you have applications or processes running on the instance that cannot be disrupted during the patching operation.

If you choose to defer rebooting, Patch Manager will mark the instances as non-compliant until a subsequent reboot and scan is performed. This gives you the flexibility to schedule the reboot operations in a way that helps you ensure minimum disruption to your application availability.

Patch Manager is a feature of Systems Manager. Systems Manager enables visibility and control of your cloud and on-premises infrastructure. It simplifies resource and application management, shortens the time to detect and resolve operational problems, and makes it easier to operate and manage your infrastructure securely at scale.

This feature is available in all AWS Regions where AWS Systems Manager Patch Manager is supported. For more details about Patch Manager, visit the AWS Systems Manager product page and documentation.
