You can now take automatic backups of your Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS) file systems with AWS Backup in AWS Europe (Milan) and AWS Africa (Cape Town) regions, directly using the Amazon EFS console or API. Automatic backups for Amazon EFS further simplifies backup management of your file systems by enabling you to meet your business and regulatory backup compliance requirements.

Amazon EFS provides a simple, scalable, fully managed elastic NFS file system for use with AWS Cloud services and on-premises resources. It is built to scale on demand to petabytes without disrupting applications, growing and shrinking automatically as you add and remove files, eliminating the need to provision and manage capacity to accommodate growth.

AWS Backup offers a centralized, fully-managed, and policy-based service to protect customer data and ensure compliance across AWS services for business continuity purposes. With AWS Backup, you can centrally configure data protection (backup) policies and monitor backup activity across your AWS resources, including Amazon EBS volumes, Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) databases (including Aurora clusters), Amazon DynamoDB tables, Amazon Elastic File System (EFS), Amazon EC2 instances, and AWS Storage Gateway volumes.

Automatic backups for Amazon EFS is available in all regions where AWS Backup is available. You can learn more by reading the AWS Backup and the Amazon EFS product pages and documentation, and logging into the Amazon EFS console to get started.
