AWS Service Catalog administrators can now add Service Catalog governance to their existing AWS CloudFormation stacks. Once imported into Service Catalog, administrators can manage stack updates, govern parameters, and enforce tagging. With this new feature, long-running stacks can be governed while leaving the underlying resources untouched.
With stack import, administrators create Service Catalog products with templates from CloudFormation that match their running stacks. Administrators establish governance by associating constraints and tag options to the products used for import. End users import a CloudFormation stack, creating a Service Catalog provisioned product. When the import is complete, end-users can update, terminate, and perform operational actions on their imported provisioned products.
Service Catalog Stack Import is available via the AWS API, CLI, and Service Catalog console in all AWS commercial and GovCloud Regions. To learn more, read the documentation on the Service Catalog stack import API.
