Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS) now supports single Availability Zone (AZ) storage classes (One Zone), reducing storage costs by 47% compared to Amazon EFS Standard storage classes, while maintaining the EFS capabilities that customers love. With this launch, you can achieve an effective storage price of $0.043/GB-month.[1]

With Amazon EFS One Zone, you have the choice of a simple, serverless, set-and-forget elastic file system in a single AZ at 47% lower cost than Amazon EFS Standard. Amazon EFS One Zone is ideal for workloads such as development, build, and staging environments, as well as applications such as analytics, simulation and media transcoding, and for backups or replicas of on-premises data which do not require regional resilience. Amazon EFS is designed for 99.999999999% (11 9’s) durability, and all file systems using One Zone storage classes have automatic backup policies to provide additional data protection with regional redundancy.

Amazon EFS One Zone storage classes are available in US East (Ohio), US East (N. Virginia), US West (N. California), US West (Oregon), Asia Pacific (Hong Kong), Asia Pacific (Mumbai), Asia Pacific (Seoul), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Europe (Frankfurt), Europe (Ireland), Europe (Milan), Europe (Stockholm), South America (Sao Paulo), Africa (Cape Town), Middle East (Bahrain), and all AWS GovCloud (US) regions, with more regions coming soon.

To learn more, please read the AWS News blog, the documentation, and try it out using the Amazon EFS Console.
