Amazon Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS) is a fully-managed messaging service that supports application-to-person (A2P) workloads, including mobile text messaging (SMS). Now, when using Amazon SNS to send SMS to your customers, you can set a principal entity ID and a message template ID, as Amazon SNS message attributes.
These new message attributes help you comply with new telecom regulation in India. Specifically, the Telecom Authority of India (TRAI) now mandates the use of principal entity ID and message template ID when sending SMS to Indian phone numbers. As per TRAI regulation, companies that operate in India, and send SMS for commercial purposes, must register their brand as the principal entity, along with their message templates, using the Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) portal provided by VILPOWER.
The following resources can help you get started:
- For more information on registering your entity and your message templates on the DLT portal, see Special requirements for sending SMS messages to recipients in India, in the Amazon SNS Developer Guide.
- For more information on setting the message attributes, see Publishing to a mobile phone, in the Amazon SNS Developer Guide.
- For testing your SMS messages with the new message attributes, you may use the Publish SMS message form, in the Amazon SNS Management Console.
