The SMS channel in Amazon Pinpoint now includes a sandbox experience for new accounts. This new capability creates a safe environment for test and development accounts, and helps to protect against fraud and abuse.
While your account is in the sandbox, you can use all of the features of the SMS channel in Amazon Pinpoint, but you can only send messages to phone numbers that you have verified. You can quickly verify new phone numbers on the SMS settings page in the Amazon Pinpoint console. When you're ready to move out of the sandbox, you can request production access by creating a case in the AWS Support Center. When your account is given production access—that is, when your account is removed from the sandbox—you can send text messages to any phone number, even if it isn't verified.
