Amazon DocumentDB (with MongoDB compatibility) is a fast, scalable, highly available, and fully managed document database service that supports MongoDB workloads. As a document database, Amazon DocumentDB makes it easy to store, query, and index JSON data at scale.
Amazon DocumentDB now supports Global Clusters. Global Clusters is a new feature that provides disaster recovery from region-wide outages and enables low-latency global reads by allowing reads from the nearest Amazon DocumentDB cluster.
Global Clusters uses fast, storage-based replication across regions with latencies typically less than one second, using dedicated infrastructure with no impact to your workload’s performance. In the unlikely event of a regional degradation or outage, one of the secondary regions can be promoted to full read/write capabilities, typically in less than one minute. You can have up-to five secondary regions with global clusters, and each secondary region can have up-to 16 replica instances.
Global clusters is available starting DocumentDB v4.0. You can create a new Global Cluster or add regions to existing clusters with just a few clicks on the Amazon DocumentDB Management Console or download the latest AWS SDK or CLI. For more information on how to get started, or see documentation. For full pricing and regional availability see Amazon DocumentDB pricing.
