AWS Snow Family now supports external Network Time Protocol (NTP) server configuration on Snowball Edge and Snowcone devices. By providing external NTP support, customers are able to synchronize device time with the NTP servers they provide.
With this launch, customers can achieve time synchronization on Snowball Edge and Snowcone by configuring external NTP servers, enabling them to deploy Snow devices at the rugged, mobile edge locations for the long-term (more than 1-year) and to enable time synchronization with the surrounding systems such as private 5G core network deployment at farm locations, and video analytics application at industrial ports. Prior to this launch, customers’ Snowball Edge or Snowcone devices relied on its internal device time which may have deviated from other systems over time.
To use this feature, customers can provide up to 5 NTP servers for their Snowball Edge or Snowcone devices. This feature is available for devices ordered on or after November 16, 2021.
